Scripts and Plugins / What does redraw do?
« Last post by Truman on Today at 12:19:51 am »
I'm checking out scripts and often a standard I see has to do with redraw.

The only thing I know is that it is disabled for speed.

What does this command do exactly? How does enabling vs disabling it change anything?

hi jeff

…I can't say that f3 is terribly intuitive.

it may not be intuitive, but essential. it's the content palette (for text frames, image frames, tables…)

Scripts and Plugins / Getting Group Members
« Last post by Derek on January 24, 2022, 05:19:09 pm »
Is it possible to get a list of members of a group?

Something like:

Code: [Select]
...

if getObjectType(name) == "Group":
    groupMembers = getGroupMembers(name)

# Do something with groupMembers

...

I'm hoping to avoid having to store the group's attributes, explode the group, (do something), then reassemble the group and restore the attributes.

Hi Utnik,

Many thanks, I don't know how I'd have found that without your help, although I must have somehow figured it out the first time.

Having 'Properties' under the Table pulldown menu or as a Right Click operation with cells highlighted would have saved me several frustrating hours, I can't say that f3 is terribly intuitive.

Thanks again.

Jeff

hi ising4jesus

why aren't you reading what jean ghali tells you?
you can edit your inline text frame. (open 'windows' → 'inline items' and right click the item you like to edit…)

Images do not get inserted into a text box, they are put in an image frame and then can be moved anywhere on the page, the "SHAPE" controls text flow

Yes, you can insert a text frame inside another text frame, however, it is buggy at the moment.  Before I go further, let me say that once you do enter the frame inside the frame, it won't be editable, so make sure it's right before you insert it.

Here's how to make it work:

1. Create your new Text Frame, and get it formatted and styled exactly as you want it to be.
Insert menu / Text Frame,  Then draw your frame, etc.

2. Select the frame, so you can set the border handles, and then select "Cut" from the Edit menu.

3. Double-click inside the text box where you want the new one inserted, and position the cursor where you want it to be.
NOTE:  You do NOT want to add spaces as you mentioned in your message.  Just position the cursor where you want it.

4. Paste in your frame.  It will now flow with the text inside the other frame.
    Edit Menu / Paste

This will work fine except that once it is inserted, you can't select or edit it.

did you read the answer from jean ghali to your bug report?
if your scribus version doesn't support the editing of inline objects, you might need to update to something more recent…

Beginner Talk / Inserting lines, shapes, or graphic images into a Text Frame

This is similar to my last question... but perhaps there's a solution for this one.

How can I insert a line, shape, or a graphic image inside a Text Frame?
I want the graphics to flow with the text.

Can I select, move, or edit the line, shape, or graphic after it has been inserted?

You're correct, Nermander.

I already know I can put a box on top of the text... but the box will not flow with the text.
The text frame will flow, but it is un-editable, once inserted.

I went ahead and reported this as a bug on the Scribus bug-reporting website.
If anyone can think of a good work-around, I'm all ears!  ;-)
