Hi!

A good tutorial book, as it exists for Libreoffice, is a key thing, absolutely! So, even bringing this up is a very cool, strategic move already!

I have checked the first 3/4 docs at github...
and my impression is: lots of space for improvement! :) (this is good news)

The "problem" with these texts is that they start in the void...
somewhere far-far off...

So, suggestion #1:  a tutorial should be written linearly!
from the first chapter on...

The linked "Introduction" chapter is, strangely, only an introduction to the manual itself (that doesn't exist yet) ...
I'm talking about an introduction to Scribus, of course :)

Suggestion #2:  let's start with "the" introduction chapter!

Suggestion #3: let's speak to 2 types of Scribus users...

people working on their first projects... -- free and creative individuals, at the beginning of their Scribus journey..

seasoned book editors / typographers / layout designers... working in teams / in professional context, having used other software already...

my suggestion for a title: can I trust Scribus with my project?  (an introduction)

In this chapter, I'd like to read about the workflow...
including what role to give Inkscape ... and even Gimp ... and what role Scribus is adequate for...

I would also like to read about Libreoffice being compared to Scribus...

And all this on two levels -- for the free creative individuals, and the seasoned ones working in professional context...

The "trust" question, I  believe, is a very basic one, cause this is what happens when someone tries Scribus... a decision is being made... based on the experiment and the impressions...

And I would emphasize that Scribus is a very robust, stable "application", and that it is highly sophisticated... meaning that artistic / professional vision never has to bump into a wall, anything is possible, and possibly much more than you  can imagine at once :)

I believe that a PDF would be the good format, as opposed to an online "library" -- which is a good thing otherwise!! And the tutorial, or "handbook" could have version numbers, too...

Well, this is what I think

well, the options are predefined in the script...
see: https://github.com/bwipp/postscriptbarcode/wiki/Options-Reference

I know you know this :)

I mean, the UI can't offer more options than the script...

My intuition is that terry has got soooo many requestS, including the "Aztek Mesas",
and trillions of other areas where they use barcode,
that ISBN has become just a little old project for him... solved ages ago :)

Terry writes the Scribus barcode plugin. Ask him and see if it's allowed in the barcode specs and he could add it if it's really not possible right now. There are lots of options when creating the barcodes in the UI though.

Scripts and Plugins / ISBN barcode -- with the human...
Last post by jeepe - September 17, 2023, 03:51:35 PM
hi,

Another forum member had asked a very similar question not so long ago (https://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,4558.0.html)

My question is perhaps more specific:

Is there really not an option to have a single block ISBN barcode (without the 5 digit price block), but with the "human readable ISBN atop of it?

Cause that seems to be the case...

Lots of variations under
"point of sale" and "GS1 data family"...

But none of them has the readable ISBN code above the barcode...

I checked Terry Burtun's page and the available options reference page:
https://github.com/bwipp/postscriptbarcode/wiki/Options-Reference

and there is no solution there...
I know, I can just place it there manually :)
But if I mistype it...

So, I don't know what to say...
as I have no question :)

I only wish this could be arranged with Terry Burton...

at github, perhaps? https://github.com/bwipp/postscriptbarcode/wiki/Options-Reference

you seem to be following

https://github.com/fundevogel/we-love-colors

after having done `pip install farben" in the terminal, you can then run `farben` as a "command" in the same terminal, as described in

https://github.com/fundevogel/we-love-colors#getting-started

you probably need to carefully read the whole README file on github to understand how to use `farben` (and also learn a bit how to use the terminal / console).

good luck!

Hi. Newbie here. First time I have contact with Python. I'm having difficulty running farben.

I installed Python on the Desktop. I ran the command "pip install farben". Afterwards, I couldn't move forward with anything else. No commands worked.

Sorry, but I'm completely lost.

QuoteIntegration between Inkscape and other TDP software (including Scribus) could be a useful approach.
[Moderation: The quote above is from a spam post that has been deleted]

What sort of integrations do you have in mind? I've often wished that something like Adobe CC's Libraries existed for FLOSS creative software; specifically, I would find syncing character, paragraph, and object styles, swatches, and vector and raster assets, between Scribus, Inkscape, Krita and Kdenlive incredibly useful. I have a feeling that even making synced assets interoperable would be tricky though, and then there's the matter of actually syncing (although maybe this could be left for the user to figure out using git, syncthing, nextcloud, or whatever).

The trick to get it working: Open in story editor and add one empty line before the title.

General Discussion / Use tabs for docments
Last post by AdmFubar - September 12, 2023, 11:56:25 PM
From what I can tell, when using tabs for documents, there doesnt seem to be a option to only show the document name and not the full path and name, or am I missing that options somewhere?
