as long as your settings for margins, bleeds and the whole content of the master pages is symmetrical, it doesn't matter if you apply a left or a right master page to an actual document page. scribus will export a perfect .pdf file anyway. (just check for the placement of all master page items!)

Actually you can set the left/right master page type but once set it cannot be edited

It's time to show off.

I'm not the author of text and pictures. I've just put it together.

As a Scribus beginer I managed to create a book!
I want to thank to all developers and people who helped me here or created documentation, video tutorials etc. somewhere on the Internet. I want to thank to people asking questions here as well, because due to it many of my questions were already answered.

It is not the most complex book design, but it has been printed and almost is sold out.
All the software used for this book is FOSS. Scribus, GIMP, Libre Office, python, git and other tools running on Linux, as well as freely available fonts. It helped us keeping the price of book in reasonable limits.

Of course I've noticed some mistakes as soon as I've laid hands on physical book but still... It is awesome that a few months of my (and others) free time have materialized.

Many moons ago, I was part of a project

that did produce an experimental art book.

I'll let page 101 explain you the issue:

"Indeed, you can apply a right master page to a left page".

As you see now, the Preflight verifier will complain, but you can do it and Scribus does not help you not to do it : - )

P.S.: I guess that you defined your L master page as right page and the R one as a left one...

Quote from: a.l.e on October 19, 2025, 05:44:23 PMConcerning the left side: Never seen that...
I wonder where it could come from...

Concerning the right side: It could be better, but I'm pretty sure that you will manage to widen a bit the window, if it's really needed : - )

The new palettes are still a work in progress.
The library Scribus is using for them, might even get replaced "soon"...

At this point, I think it's worth checking, if the "nightly" Appimage from the Gitlab CI works better for you.

If you want to stick with 1.6, you can get the official Appimage.
It's much heavier than your self compiled builds, but it might just work.
Thanks for your feedback.
The background is also mssing when using recent SVN but I can deal with it for the moment.

I actually don't really care if I have use 1.6 or 1.7.svn. The only important thing is that the resulting PDF (PDF/X-4) is correct and I can print my project. Do you know of any actual problems there?
Well and it would be good if it won't destroy my work ;) (but keep backups ...)

Regards,
Andreas

Bonjour,
Par erreur, j'utilise le même fichier général pour 5 sujets différents. J'aimerais rétablir la situation, créer 5 fichiers généraux liés aux 5 sujets. Comment effectuer cette opération sans perturber les sujets ?
Merci de votre aide

Beginner Talk / Re: Automatic Contour wrap
Last post by marce colina - October 20, 2025, 07:13:53 PM
Hi ale. Thanks! Yeah, the closely wrapping is not desired most times. In the old Pageplus you could adjust distance from text in each side (left, right, top, bottom) precisely. That was good.
About using Gimp and Paths, yeah, i experimented a little with it. Is good if you are working in a page with a detailed finishing. If you are just working with some speed, and letting the program adjust things, not very much. I believe that the automatic adjustment for beginner/speed working plus the advanced settings would be a nice bunch for scribus.
Yeah, Libreoffice is basic, but it has implemented the automatically wrapping in the transparent areas.
