indeed, it might be a good idea to have it in the list of "insert > character"

right now, you can insert it with

- insert > glyph
- expanding the "enhanced palette"
- and browse for the ellipsis character (or the type it's code: 2026)

welcome to the scribus forums.

just write where you think it fit...
no need to worry too much about it.

we are not very picky.
(and if somebody has issue, there are ways to move around the posts).

Beginner Talk / Insert ellipsis
Last post by scriber - July 23, 2024, 03:26:59 PM
I load or paste various texts containing some "suspension dots". Proper typographic rule says that one single character is provided for "ellipsis", and we should prefer it over three single dots.

I wanted to replace three dots with ellipsis, but I cannot find under "insert - character", menu.

Do you know if is possible, and how to achieve this goal?

I'm on Scribus 1.6.2.

Thanks in advance!

Hello there,

This is my first post after just joining this discussion, so please forgive me and provide kind assistance if I have posted to the wrong subsection!

I am new here but a real enthusiast and loving this community so far. I have a background in teaching coding and in education and feel I could help with documentation, at least for starters.

As a new member in this forum and wish to share and gain some knowledge. I am looking forward to create my own discussion to resolve my query and gain some knowledge though I have taken part in various discussion which is definitely helped me a lot.

Also in what category should be taken depends on what factors? 🤔

Thank you 🙏 in advance.

Probably*, you can open the .sla file with a text editor, find the (first) occurrence of "White" and add

Spot="1"
to it:

<COLOR NAME="White" SPACE="CMYK" C="0" M="0" Y="0" K="0" Spot="1"/>
It's a hack, but if you can confirm that it does what you want, I think that it might be worth to ask for a way to mark any existing color as a spot one.

Attached are a .sla and the resulting Pdf with a spot White...

* In the attached .sla and .pdf it seems to have been working, but I have no way to check if everything is indeed correct.

Hi,

I need help.
Scribus automatically has a white and black color defined. I cannot delete or alter (name) these colors.
However for printing i need a white color as a spot color with the name "White", there cannot be 2 Whites.
So is there a backdoor or whatever, a way to delete or alter the orignal white color scribus provides?

I can't even call my White "white" with lower case, it HAS to be "White".

Or maybe alter something in scribus it's files and folder? The code for this has to be stored somewhere right?

It's so frustrated that these colors are locked. I might end up losing a client and money over this issue if i can't fix this. And i can't use illustrator or whatever cause paying a lot of money for a program you only use 3 times in a year is ridiculous.

There is still the same problem.
You answered 2019. Now we are in 2024.

I also have a lot of problems with the way styles should work in Scribus 1.5.2 or 1.6.8.
I´m disgusted.

thank you, utnik,

this is what I too observed...

anyway, I read everywhere that tables don't function in Scribus...
but my conclusion is that Scribus is good and precise, even with tables.

I like it :)

(I have never edited a magazine on paper, so I can't really tell, but so far, designing
a book's cover, and the TOC, Scribus excels, works pretty well, and offers a great amount of control over every detail)

PS:
In your profile pic, is it a Unicum bottle?

hi jeepe

i just tested in scribus 1.6.2. you can apply table styles to a slection of table cells, but unfortunately you can't do the same with paragraph styles or character styles.
this might be worth to file a feature request.
