Beginner Talk / Re: Reverse Text

Not sure it's exactly what you want - but you can mirror the text frame horizontally ..

Select the Frame and go to Properties.  Just below the frame geometry is the basepoint selector ... and below that is a row of buttons. The first one is 'Group the Selected Objects' (which will be disabled) and the second is "Flip horizontally" which mirrors the whole frame (Icon is a double headed horizontal arrow).

Beginner Talk / Reverse Text

Hi
I am using version 1.5.6.1 (Manjaro Linux) and trying to open an old SLA file that I created some years ago with an old version of Scribus (maybe 1.4 but I cannot remember).
The Hebrew text is reversed (mirrored) and I cannot find the flipped 'R' option  button in order to correct this.
Any idea where this button disappeared to?
Thanks

Beginner Talk / Lots of Render Frames
« Last post by jowo on May 21, 2021, 01:17:45 pm »
Hey there people!

I'm wondering if you have any suggestions on dealing with LOTS of render frames in a document.  The problem I'm having is that they all want to render at the same time when I first open Scribus, which bogs down my computer to the point of freezing while I wait for them to render.  Is there anyway to keep them from rendering every time I start up Scribus?

Thanks in advance!

Joe

I have not understood if the "merge" is done on the SLA or the PDF, if it is done on the PDF, my qualified quess is that the tool used just combines the PDF. That would mean every embedded font becomes duplicated several times.

A "smart" tool would recognize duplicates of the same font and only embed it once.
Duplicate fonts could be the issue.. If the fonts are utf they could be substantial in size to start with. Getting duplicated would bloat the file size quickly.

No special settings .. I'm not even using 'Save in compressed format'

Document setup is: A4 facing pages, dimensions in mm - guides and margins defined by ~10 master pages
Styling is done with approximately 30 custom paragraph, character & line styles - I minimise use of directly applied formatting (although there is some).

Total word count is probably >50,000,  ~1200 eps images + 50 non-eps  - all linked - none embedded.

File comes in at 7.52 MB

hi mister

direct printing from an .sla file doesn't always work well. i wouldn't be surprised if transparencies (like drop shadows) don't show.
i always export it to .pdf first.

btw.: what are your printing settings? (postscript level 1, 2, 3 or .pdf)

RobSay,

What settings do you have such that your document is less than 10 megs?

I'm having an issue with Scribus 1.5.6.1 and "drop shadows" enabled on images. They show up fine in the preview mode, and they even export to PDF just fine, but I'd like to be able to print them right from scribus for individual test page prints, and they don't seem to want to print.

Is there something I'm missing or is this a known problem in 1.5.6.1?

Beginner Talk / Default styles in F3 and F4 palettes

I'm using v1.5.6.1 on a 64 bit Windows platform

Is there any significance in the F3 Text properties pallet in the two Style drop down options?

I see both Default Character Style  and    Default Paragraph Style with and without enclosing brackets [   ] in the two palette Style dropdowns

Do the [ ] brackets have any significance?

Then also in the F4 Style editor  I see several Default Paragraph Style entries in the list.
Does it matter which dropdown entry I choose to edit the default style?
How did I get so many choices in the first place?
I do frequently import individual pages from other SLAs
but I don't see how that should affect the destination SLA defaults

Or is this odd presentation because I'm using v1.5 ?
