Title: Problem when manually changing font size
Post by: jicay on April 08, 2024, 06:45:30 PM
Hello,
I recently upgraded to the new stable version of Scribus (1.6.1 on Debian 12 AppImage).
I'm encountering two problems that I didn't have before (Scribus 1.4.9).
- First, I create a paragraph style with automatic line spacing.
- I create a block of text using this style
- When I manually increase the font size, everything works correctly. However, if I decrease the font size, the line spacing doesn't reduce.
- If I use drop caps, I have a problem with overlapping text.
I'm attaching an example file for clarification.
Has anyone encountered this problem and can it be solved?
Thanks for your help.

No, that's not my problem.
I define a style that I'm going to apply to the articles in a magazine.
Then I do a direct formatting for each article separately. I modify the text properties to adjust its size to the block.
I can't edit the style, because I'd need a style for each block of text.

If you do that, then the style is overridden with local formatting

Same here (Scr 1.6.1 on Win10/64).
Scribus wrongly calculates automatic spacing when you change text size - 120% defined in preferences becomes 200 or 300% when decreasing of 100% when increasing font size.

So the solution (maybe) would be to define a new style based on the one used with a different size font, and apply that to the text.

I'd like to see exactly which settings you are changing with these numbers. Can you explain further?

Yes, that's exactly what I want to do: I define a general style for all the articles and then adjust the font size for each article separately.

No, that's not an option. There are too many articles. Finalising the layout this way would be too complicated.

I absolutely must finish this work before the end of the week. I'm going back to version 1.4.9, which is working well, but I'm going to continue to follow this discussion. I'd love to switch to the latest version of Scribus.

1. Change default paragraph style to Automatic Lines Spacing
2. Open textbox and insert Lipsum text
3. Select paragraph in textbox and change its size (override style) in Text Properties panel

Automatic Lines Spacing always should be 120% (or whatever percent it is default in Typographic Preferences).
Well, it is not.

Do you think it's the same problem that causes the defect in the drop caps?
