hi ez3

i think this is a job for a script.
you can always file a feature request, but this one won't have many use cases – not sure if the devs will spend a lot of work for it...

General Discussion / Character or paragraph style t...

Hello. I'm not a new user but I also haven't yet used Scribus "in anger".

I'd like to have the freedom to easily switch between:
  • ALL CAPS (already there)
  • Capitalize The First Letter Of Each Word
  • Only the first letter of the first word is capitalized
  • all words in minuscules. ever

As a matter of fact, I only need the last style with all words in minuscule to style some marginal titles, independently of how the text is stored. E.g. I'd like to be able to write:
"Work Experience" as in a heading, and then be able to switch between those styles, in a similar fashion to what the CSS text-transform property achieves.

Should I request the feature? Could it be done with a script in the meantime?

Thanks

In the PDF generated by Scribus, the page is defined by the trimbox (which of course aligns with the crop marks).

https://www.prepressure.com/pdf/basics/page-boxes

At least in Acrobat, you can choose if it should crop the view to the trimbox or show the full media.

If you want to imposition into a booklet and then add crop marks I think you need to do this with the software you are using to imposition. The simple booklet printing of Acrobat cannot handle this.

Note that for this to work, you will need to impose the pages onto an oversized page.

Edit: Changed cropbox to trimbox, I confused them.

Code / Re: PythonAPI and groups

getGroupItems() gives me the names of the objects in the group (if it is a top level group), but I can not select or move or manipulate these objects in any way. Objects that are in a group in a group are entirely inaccessible.

I submitted a patch to fix this, but I am not sure if it was intended behaviour

It is inconvenient that Scribus doesn't have a way to format a pdf as a booklet similar to how Adobe does it. For the most part I can get around this however I am stumped as to how I can do this with bleeds and crop marks. To my knowledge, Scribus adds bleeds and crop marks to every page, which becomes a problem when transferring it to say, Adobe Acrobat, where they include the bleed and crop area into the booklet format. This leaves white space between pages which can make things feel disjointed, especially when I have elements crossing over between pages. Does anyone know if it is possible to get your work on Scribus onto a booklet formatted pdf with bleeds and crop marks?

It has an issue that seems like a garbage collection is happening. It hangs periodically for a bit, then continues. a few other oddities as well i need to sit down and use it and get back to you about it. Is there a list of new features for 1.7 somewhere that i can reference?

Text and Typography / Text Frames
Last post by itsnota2ma - February 11, 2025, 05:45:42 PM
I am creating a fill form. Is there a way to automatically remove the frame text in a field when a user starts typing in it, or at least highlight the text so it can be automatically overwritten?

I see there is a new ARM64 build for Mac. 1.6.3_1. Are there any release notes on what's changed?
