Title: "Embed PDF & EPS files (EXPERIMENTAL)" is simply greyed out and can't be changed
Post by: mike_tyson on May 18, 2015, 08:50:22 AM
I am using Scribus 1.4.5 (26 January 2015, Build ID: C-C-T-F-C1.14.0-Mac/Aqua, Using Ghostscript version 9.16) under OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3.

I want to export my document as PDF, such that embedded graphs and figures, which are PDF, are retained as PDF, i.e. vectorized.

To do that, in the past (on other computers / installations of Scribus), I ususally just check "Embed PDF & EPS files (EXPERIMENTAL)" in the "Save as PDF..." dialog.

However, "Embed PDF & EPS files (EXPERIMENTAL)" is simply greyed out. It's simply not possible for me to make a checkmark there.

Does anyone what I an do to enable it?

hi mike

i just tested it under macOS 10.9.5. it's the same here: in scribus 1.4.4 it works, in 1.4.5-r2 it's grayed out – looks like a bug.
please report it at bugs.scribus.net (http://bugs.scribus.net/my_view_page.php).

In the interests of giving more information for debugging, I've also replicated the problem on 10.9.5 with Scribus Version 1.4.5, 26 January 2015, Build ID: C-C-T-F-C1.14.0-Mac/Aqua, Using Ghostscript version 9.15.

* I created a document with a single image and some text, then exported it as PDF 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5.
* I then inserted each exported PDF in turn into an image frame in an otherwise blank document and tried to export that document as the three different PDF versions.

Under none of these circumstances could I access the "Embed PDF & EPS" option (greyed out).

I also tried - out of interest - switching colour management on and exporting to X-1a and X-3 both with the same result, no access to that option.

i reported it on the bug tracking system – see bug #13068 (http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=13068).

Is it somehow possible to downgrade from Scribus 1.4.5 (26 January 2015, Build ID: C-C-T-F-C1.14.0-Mac/Aqua, Using Ghostscript version 9.16) under OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3, to Scribus 1.4.4, so that I can export as PDF?

If yes, how can I dowgrade (I tried finding a dmg of 1.4.4. but can't find it)?

Also, if doing this, will I be able to open the document which I created in 1.4.5 in 1.4.4?

I invested many hours into creating this document, and I have to print it (very soon) in vectorized form (very big poster with detailed graphs).

hi mike

at sourceforge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus/) you'll find the scribus versions down to 1.3.3.12.

Quote...will I be able to open the document which I created in 1.4.5 in 1.4.4?

aifik this should work properly.

This is because the dev that packages OSX builds most likely didn't build it with the PoDoFo library.
Mike, if you want to test out another option which is somewhat stable but subject to being broken from time to time and if you want to use it with a professional printer it may not be 100% reliable yet... you can use the Unstable version. Unstable sounds scary but it's pretty stable for the most part.

Check out: https://github.com/scribusproject/homebrew-scribus
It's a way to install the most up to date (and subject to being unstable) version of Scribus. The trade off is that you need to backup any of your current .sla docs before you open them in this version: 1.5.1svn because it's not backward compatible.

If you have any questions feel free to ask here. Also use this at your own risk.
