Windows / Re: Issue with Scribus Color &...
Last post by Nermander - October 19, 2025, 07:25:56 AM
As far as I remember, Scribus does not have a default color set, the available colors are the colors that are defined in the document. There are pre-defined color sets you can import.

So my guess is that the two screenshots are from two different documents, not the same document on two different PCs.

Windows / Issue with Scribus Color & Eff...
Last post by akhilvtk - October 19, 2025, 06:29:15 AM
Hi everyone, I have two systems: a desktop and an HP laptop and both have Windows 11, 25H2. I've noticed an issue with Scribus under the Color & Effects menu. On my laptop, the dropdown menu only shows three colors, whereas on my desktop, there are significantly more options available.

I've attached a screenshot for reference. Could anyone help me understand why this discrepancy exists and how I can resolve it on my laptop?

Thanks in advance!

Beginner Talk / Text distances in Style editor
Last post by LeXa - October 19, 2025, 04:27:53 AM
Hello,
Discovering Scribus, I'm working on a photography calendar.

I'm using the calendar wizard script to generate pages, so each 'day box' is a text frame. Associated with a style. Very powerful to change style on the whole document.
I'm trying to apply a margin on the number of the day in the top left but with a margin as the example below.

https://pasteboard.co/kgQFqAYvwYyH.png

But I can't find this option, 'Text distances', in the style editor. I don't want to have to replicate that on each  (many) Text frame...

Someone know how to proceed or a workaround ?

Cheers,

Interesting project!

First (a short one): In Scribus, the table are bad. Not sure you really want to support them in your framework.

Second (something slightly longer):

Currently, none of the actions typical for the text frames are available for the content of table cells.

As far as I can tell, the cells cannot be accessed by a name, and I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to implement that.

Also, I've tested setTextColor() and it refuses to apply when the selection is a table cell.

But there might be a simple way out:

  • Add a Scripter function to select a cell by it's "coordinates" (row and column).
  • Tweak all the text related to accept also table cells as targets.

I've created a ticket for this:
https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=17655

No promise it will be added soon, but it might be an easy task.

Third:

I did not download the script, just had a look at the screenshots and documentation and it looks like an interesting work!

I will try to find some time for a deeper review and for trying it out...

Just one first thing: since you call it a prototype, you might rather target Scribus 1.7 instead of 1.6...

Sadly, the one with the frame break and the formatting is a known issue:

... I'm not sure it's something I know how to fix...

Wayland?

P.S.: If it's the case you might need to run Scribus with XWayland...

At the beginning of this year, I've added tickets for two related proposals that Martin did:

Create a context aware toolbar
https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=17365

Create a customizable toolbar
https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=17366

I guess that they go in the same direction as the Quick Access bar

User Interface / Issues with the v1.7.1.svn UI
Last post by amair - October 18, 2025, 05:42:02 PM
Hi!

I have been "forced" ;) to use v1.7.x as Gentoo dropped the latest 1.6 from the repository and made 1.7.1.svn (dated 20250929) the only Scribus release in their repository. I hope it's stable enough for my upcoming project starting next week ...

While I'm quite pleased by the new UI there are some issues I consider a bug or need some improvement.

A) scribus-sidebar-missing-background.jpg
The new non-permanent sidebars have no background color set.

B) scribus-sidebar-usability.jpg
1+2) Drop-down if the foreground or background color is clicked. It's *very* hard to recognize that drop-down (1: no border or alternate background color) and its close button (2: x).
3+4) The minimum width isn't set wide enough. Button is cut (3) and there's a scrollbar at the bottom (4).

Regards,
Andreas

have you looked at openclipart.org? not sure if they have an api to use. You might be able to prod them to add one.
