Announcements and Forum Rules / Re: Scribus 1.7.0 Released
Last post by joseb - March 13, 2025, 04:21:24 PM
I have tried to find out if it is some incompatibility of inline elements with other objects, but I have not identified any improvement when removing other objects such as annotations, links, images or markers.

By chance, I have discovered that the problem is solved if I make one of the layers 'not visible' (turn off the eye). While one of the layers is 'not visible' on the display, Scribus does allow editing and updating the inline element I have in my file.

But it only works if I disable one of the layers in particular: the layer where I have 90% of the texts in linked frames ('Text' layer). I have tried turning off the visibility of other layers, but the issue persists and Scribus 1.7 crashes when I try to edit an inline element and closes.

I have opened the ticket 'https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=17452'

I can confirm that the bug, happens when editing a new inline item in your file.

Would you mind to open a ticket in

https://bugs.scribus.net ?

I guess that you would also need hints on how to tweak your .sla so that the bug does not happen anymore with this specific files...

Finding bugs.

Scribus versions 1.7.0 and 1.7.1svn on Windows crash when I try to edit an inline item.

If I create a new one-page Scribus file it works and does not crash. It creates the new inline item and I can edit and update it... But with files with more objects it collapses when editing.

It happens to me in a 55 page file with TOC, bookmarks, PDF Annotations with links between pages and 1 inline item. I attach the file: 'https://filedn.eu/lgnU3FkGNeWSF8iGHKRwspy/CONFIG-SCRIBUS_Forums/250313_SCRIBUS_Inline-item-edit-crash.sla'.

New inline items can be created and you can insert them in various places without any problem. But I am not able to edit them afterwards. When Scribus opens the edit mode of the inline item, it crashes and closes.

Does anyone know if this is due to a bug in my settings, or is it a bug in Scribus?

Sorry if this is not the place to bring this up. I don't know how to submit a bug or issues.

What has already happened in March...

  • Vastly improved Node editing
    node-editing.png
  • Better support for CSS in imported SVG files
  • The shortcuts for the palettes (F2, F3, ...) bring the "background ones to the foreground, instead of closing them
  • Paste plain text from applications where the default is to paste formatted text
  • The generation of "nightly" Appimages on Gitlab works again
  • Choice of dark or light theme on top of the auto detection

Open tickets with pending patches:

p.s.: I have searched for a way to create draft topics, but could not find one...

General Discussion / February 2025
Last post by a.l.e - March 13, 2025, 10:36:56 AM
Lately, the Scribus developers and contributors have been more productive than usual.

I'd like to start a series of monthly summaries, listing what has changed in the past month.

In the comment, we can already collect the changes of the current month and make it easy to write the monthly reports.

  • New Scripter commands:
    • getMinWordTracking
    • setMinWordTracking
    • use floats for `getWordTracking` and `getMinWordTracking`
    • getBoundingBox (this and the next three have been committed end of January...)
    • getCurrentPageSize
    • getVisualBoundingBox
    • setCurrentPageSize
  • Pasting with formatting from
    • MS Word
    • LibreOffice
    • HTML
    • Apple Pages, Notes, ...
  • Remove the tabs from the "Align and Distribute" tool and simplify it.
    align-and-distribute.png
  • Avoid using custom font encoding when embedding TTF fonts in PDFs (Should avoid "hard to debug" errors with some print shops)

p.s.: I'd also like to use this threads to push tickets that users think might be next in the pipeline...

It is an issue with the flatpack. The support isnt there for a dark theme.

The page shadow can be turned off. Close any open documents and in preferences, about midway down is an option titled "Display" click to select.

In the window that opens select the  "Pages" tab, second from the last in the list is a box to select the page shadow. Uncheck to turn off. :)

Can you please show a screenshot of the shadow that you want to be removed?

My Spanish is not good enough, and this time the automatic translation does not seem to be good enough...

1.7 is the first Scribus version with a serious try to support dark themes.

the upcoming 1.7.1 should then work correctly.

i would suggest you to wait for that release (or trying the current development state by compiling the current source code; or taking the development flatpak created by martin; or waiting for the dev appimages to be created available again) before reporting bugs with the dark theme.

this having been said, i really don't see why, using a dark theme can make Scribus to run less smoothly...

No sé si a alguien más le pasa, pero la sombra de la hoja en el borrador no ayuda, puede confundir mientras uno trabaja, espero que a muchos no les guste y el grupo de desarrolladores acepten la humilde sugerencia de eliminarla.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but the shadow of the sheet in the draft doesn't help, it can be confusing while you're working. I hope many people don't like it and the developer group accepts my humble suggestion to remove it.
