Hi PatJr/AdmFubar,

Thanks for your responses.

AdmFubar, I have used Times New Roman, may you suggest any suitable fonts, because i am not aware of Arabic fonts?

Thanks,

Windows / Scribus v.1.4.8 vs. 1.6.1
Last post by Einar - March 26, 2024, 09:00:44 AM
I'm rather unfamiliar with software developments, versions etc., but have used Scribus for years to edit and publish a magazine for a local club/society. My computer/Microsoft ask me repeatedly to install Windows 11. I've refused – so far, just for convenience. I'm most worried that any issues appear for Scribus. As far as I figured out it will run fine on Win 11 – hence no expected problems. So, to the point of this post: I've used Scribus 1.4.8 and realised that Scribus 1.6.1 is available, then the question: Will the "lates and greatest" version - v.1.6.1 open and reads files created with v.1.4.8 without any issues? Hence, is it  just install from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus/1.6.1/ and "plug-and-play" ...

Thanks

I downloaded the latest version of Scribus. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it wouldn't work with my version of MacOS Catalina. I cannot upgrade my iMac. Can you advise which version I can download that works with Catalina?

General Discussion / Re: [TOC] get an attribute dir...
Last post by a.l.e - March 25, 2024, 09:00:42 PM
hey!

it starts to work correctly!

i had to recreate my test file (somehow the old one did not work anymore... but it has been edited with multiple intermediate steps of the TOC... so it was somehow expected to happen).

the order of the titles is now what i would expect, but the one that is on the second page (which is in a chain starting on a first page) is showing up twice.

concerning the UI:

- i would move the options that are specific to the attributes in the lower half of the dialog and show one of both panes, depending on the selection.
that is, if after having implemented all this, you still think that it's useful to keep around the attributes based TOC...

- when no style is selected in the list on the left, the properties on the right should be disabled.

- since now the order of the style is not relevant anymore, it might be not be strictly necessary to move them up and down.
but i guess that most people will want to see them in a specific order, so it might be good to keep the feature.

finally, the last issue still open concerns the way to pick the target frame:

- on the one side, the user will not now the name and will have to close and open the dialog again to find it out.

- on the other side, a real document might have dozens of text frames and the user will have to scroll though a big list of items...

... i guess that the simple solution is to add a button "select current frame" next to the list of frames, and make it active if a frame is currently selected.

thanks for the fixes!

it is a font issue, look for a better designed font.

Hi,

i have tried the following Arabic text in Scribus, most of the characters coming correctly but some characters accents are not positioned properly

is there any possibility to fix this?

regards,

hi john

i'm not sure. i downloaded your file and could reproduce the issue. if i type fast (after placing an image), it displays the last words with a visible lag.
it is not only your file. i just did a test with scribus 1.7.0.svn on mac os (32 MB of ram) and it shows the same lag after inserting an image.
as i usually don't type in scribus (except for some corrections), i never noticed the lag before. but it's there.

it might be worth to file a bug report.

Ok a new version is now in SVN.
Reorganised the UI for main TOC
Created settings per style header, removed extra style list. Added single style list selector, and individual settings for remove line breaks, page numbering location
Removed the line break removal from the main TOC
COL/FRAMEBREAKs always removed, line breaks per settings (currently defaulted to off)
There's probably a few UI tweaks still to do.
