General Discussion / Re: day variable

oh wait, I'm realizing that the variable text as a mark feature is only meant for manually added text content. So I guess that I would need to write a script. I'll take a look at the documentation for the API and see what I can put together. I'll share what I come up with. If anyone has any ideas, post them here.

I want to create running footer with content based on text in specific paragraph styles.

I was going to start a new topic, but since this is related, I'll try it here. I want to know if the date variable was worked out, and if so, know if this is possible yet with the "Marks > Variable Text" feature.

I'm trying to use Marks for variable text in order to have a running footer which contains a specific name based on whatever text was last assigned a specific paragraph style. It's something that's in InDesign, but I've finally freed myself of Adobe with all FOSS (Inkscape, GIMP, Kdenlive, Audacity, & Scribus). This is the one sticking point.

Use Case > Anthology Example:

These are two of the paragraph styles in the document: "Content Author", "Content Title"

On each master page is:

Running Footer
%AUTHOR_NAME% | %page_number%

Running Header
%POEM_TITLE% | [Anthology Title]

%AUTHOR_NAME% represents whatever last text was in the paragraph style "Content Author", %POEM_TITLE% represents whatever text is next formatted in the "Content Title" paragraph style.

Most everything else is in either the paragraph style "Poem Text" or "Prose Text."

Is this possible? Or am I out of luck?

General Discussion / Re: Images across two pages

Hi. Thanks for this...it's ok, your reply alone helped me resolve it...completely forgot about the bleeds. Adjusted the inside bleeds to 0 and it's sorted. I wanted to use the digital file as a download alongside the print version, so this was driving me crazy! Thanks for this!

can you post up a little sample file with the image too?

I'm guessing margin, bleeds, differences between odd and even page sizes ...

General Discussion / Images across two pages
Last post by ijclark - May 08, 2024, 11:03:21 PM
At a bit of a loss...I'm creating a photography zine and in some places I have images over two pages. I created an image frame over the two pages to add the image, it all looks fine when I do a preview view, but when I export to PDF the image doesn't line up in the centre, between the pages. Is there something I'm overlooking here?

Raster and Vector Graphics / Convert SVG to SCE via CLI?
Last post by NathanUp - May 07, 2024, 10:44:38 PM
I'm wondering if there is a way to convert SVG files to SVE through the terminal on GNU/Linux (or the other way around)- The reason is this:

Both Krita and Inkscape use SVG files in special directories to populate their "symbols" panels, which store graphics across sessions for later use, much like Scribus' scrapbook panel. If it were possible to create an SCE from an SVG in the terminal, I could write a script that would parse an SVG file and create a Scribus scrapbook programmatically from the symbols contained in it.

A tool like this would allow a user to create a library of symbols / scrapbook items once and then have all of those assets available across Scribus, Krita, and Inkscape with the click of a button.

Scribus records the window sizes and locations. Detecting and dealing with the various ways multiple screens can be configured is complex and hard. Scribus does need improved code to deal with these variations.

what os and desktop are you using?  In kde you can save the positions, and virtual desktop information of a window, not sure if this extends to a different monitor as well.

Quote from: OSDP on March 19, 2024, 01:16:00 PMI have a computer under MX-Linux (debian based)

I have another under Windows10. This machine cannot migrate to Windows 11 (too old) so, i probably go to replace Windows 10 (when update ending) by Debian or SpiralLinux (easiest debian based) or by Manjaro, or by Opensuse Slowroll, or by Fedora (design suite)... I don't know exactly.

It indicates here that an appimage might be available, but I'm not seeing it. You could always try installing from the AUR on Manjaro, or alternatively, use distrobox with an Arch container to install from the AUR.

I was going to start a new thread on a color picker, but I saw this one exists, and this looks incredible! IMO it would be very useful as a dockable panel. I do think it isn't super clear how the colors get added to the document colors list (or is this done automatically when a color is applied to an object?)
