Free discussion / Serif, maker of Affinity
Last post by AdmFubar - March 26, 2024, 07:05:29 PM
Has just announced they were purchased by Canva. Some of the Affinity users are a bit upset by this.

Since Canva is a subscription based product, I wont be surprised if Affinity winds up subscription based. The Affinity programs are a deal for the price. But the writing is on the wall for a lot of programs, now that "AI" (really Machine Learning) is being  used to generate creative works.

Hi PatJr,

Thanks for your response.

Actual output should as first image "CorrectOutput.pdf". But all the Noto Arabic fonts mentioned are having accents issue as per the attached "Noto_Arabic.png".

Thanks for your responses.

AdmFubar, I have used Times New Roman, may you suggest any suitable fonts, because i am not aware of Arabic fonts?

Sorry I dont write in Arabic, so I wouldnt know a good one from a bad on. However Patjr's has pointed you to a resource. Check online if it for personal non commercial use, I'm sure you will find something suitable.
If you are doing commercial work, you may want to look into purchasing a suitable font.
There will be some trial and error in find a suitable font for your use.

make back ups
1.6.1 should load the 1.4.8 files just fine but I don't think the revers is true
I would call it more like plug and rabbit hole

Windows / Scribus v.1.4.8 vs. 1.6.1
Last post by Einar - March 26, 2024, 09:00:44 AM
I'm rather unfamiliar with software developments, versions etc., but have used Scribus for years to edit and publish a magazine for a local club/society. My computer/Microsoft ask me repeatedly to install Windows 11. I've refused – so far, just for convenience. I'm most worried that any issues appear for Scribus. As far as I figured out it will run fine on Win 11 – hence no expected problems. So, to the point of this post: I've used Scribus 1.4.8 and realised that Scribus 1.6.1 is available, then the question: Will the "lates and greatest" version - v.1.6.1 open and reads files created with v.1.4.8 without any issues? Hence, is it  just install from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus/1.6.1/ and "plug-and-play" ...

Thanks

I downloaded the latest version of Scribus. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it wouldn't work with my version of MacOS Catalina. I cannot upgrade my iMac. Can you advise which version I can download that works with Catalina?
