I'm wondering why my copy of Scribus doesn't allow me the insert>character>page number function. Everything on the insert menu from character down is greyed out. I have Ghostscript. Is there a plug in I'm missing for this functionality? I'm running the program on a dual boot computer: Linux Mint 20 on one side, Windows 7 on the other. The computer is an Acer Aspire E15 with AMD A8 quad core processor.
Need an answer ASAP as I'm preparing a book for publication with this software.
Thanks,
Jerry
hi jerry
you need to be in edit mode in a text frame to insert any character.

Hey, thanks a lot!
Is there a way to adjust the amount of space the program throws between lines? Mine seems to be double spacing and I want single space or tighter.
hi jerry
there are different possible settings (depending on the way you format your text).
- you can define a 'fixed line spacing'.
- you can set the text on a 'baseline grid' (to be defined in 'document setup')
- you can let scribus set the text with 'automatic linespacing'
- you may select one of those methods either in frame (via 'text properties') or as a part of the definition of a 'paragraph style'.
you might like to look into this good scribus manual (http://write.flossmanuals.net/scribus/_draft/_v/1.0/introduction/).

Perfect. Thanks again and sorry about the newbie questions. Thanks for the manual link, just what i needed. Seems like a better resource than the wiki.
