The window as a whole. I found the culprit. The Content Properties window is having issues with resizing. I can adjust the width to be as narrow as the others, or as short. Still trying to determine the cause.

Yes, that should work as i said, by linking an actual list (a .cvs or whatever format). Instead you need to input only one word then another and so on. Even the documentation indicates it will work like this: inputting word by word (here: https://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Help:Manual_Hyphenation)

It's not like something you can simply solve updating dictionaries also. In my case (a fantasy book), of course. But if there is a better way of doing it, I'm all ears (or eyes  :D ). If there isn't, well, how can someone asks for it to be a thing in a future update?

Because I think that this feature would be very useful. I mean, it would be much easier than looking the whole text, page by page, text box for text box, for, maybe, hundreds of pages. Now, I know I might be exaggerating, but imagine a, let's say, a thousand pages, where you need to look for, maybe 20 words that you rather not hyphenate. These 20 words may appear upper case, lower, or capital first letter. It makes 60 words to be inputted word by word. It makes much more sense if you can simply link a file containing those words.

Also, I don't know how to post/link images here so I can show what I mean by "inputting word by word", but I'm sure anyone can test it by going File > Document Setup > Hyphenator then clicking Word List and then the " + " sign in "Ignore List".

just create the columns with the guides or "page > manage guides > column/row" and create one text frame for column.

for using the "column/row" feature, you might want look into "typographic grid" (tip: if you want to or three columns, create six columns, with a gap in between, and let the text frame spread one or two columns each.

in the "properties palette > level" you have a few arrows...

and with "ctrl-click" you can cycle through the items under the cursor.

I'm not exactly a "beginner" with Scribus since I'm using it since version 1.5.x, but now I'm working on a very big text with many words I rather not hyphenate.

So i ask this: is there any better way of inputting a "Ignore List" than doing it word by word?

Thanks in advance.

Beginner Talk / Selecting a floating frame
Last post by Actinia - April 10, 2025, 01:24:47 PM
I am creating a newsletter with articles in a text frame and with various photos floated within the text. I can create an image frame, get an image, set the frame size to that of the image and set the text wrap properties of this image frame. I can then drag the image frame into my article text column at a suitable place and, if needs be move it around.
However if I come back to this image later, I find that I cannot select the image frame. Clicking on it selects the surrounding text frame. Curiously, if I try later I find I can select the image by clicking on it. This is typically after I have inserted another image frame.
I suspect that this is something to do with stacking order. Do I need to bring the image frame to the top of the stack? If so, how can I do this if I cannot select the image?

Beginner Talk / Can I create unequal column wi...
Last post by Actinia - April 10, 2025, 01:08:59 PM
I am creating a newsletter. Typically I have articles laid out with either two 90mm columns or three 60mm columns. I frequently include images which float within a column. Mostly these images can be nicely sized to equal the enclosing column with.
Occasionally I have an image that needs a different width. If I insert a 75mm image into a two column layout the wrapped text lies in a fairly narrow strip which looks ugly. Most of the time I can get round this problem, but occasionally I would like my text frame to have two unequal-width columns. Is thgis possible?

Just to be clear: you're speaking about windows of documents inside of Scribus or the Scribus window as a whole?

Anyway, I have no issues resizing the Scribus window (since I'm using a tiling window manager, I'm doing that all the time) nor maximizing document windows inside of the Scribus window (had to try it out, since I never do that).

Question: X11 or Wayland?

General Discussion / Window resizing issue.

I think i've found a bug, or at least a quirk.
Was having an issue with resizing a window where double clicking the title bar wouldn't resize to full screen (minus kde's toolbar at the bottom). The zoom status, page number setting, layers, current cursor coordinates, and measurement weren't visible.

Solution was to un-dock all the panels and then resize the windows. Has anyone else experienced this?
