General Discussion / Re: small .sla file takes 7 m...
Last post by iamjohngalt - July 02, 2025, 06:34:33 PM
I think the issue might be due to the number of files (almost 9000) in the directory/folder
where the .sla file is stored.
I saved the .sla to the parent directory (root of the hard drive) and it opens very quickly.
The file open window also stalls when I tell it to display that large directory.
(As I type this, I am waiting for Scribus to respond/open the 61K .sla file in that large
directory folder. It's been over 5 minutes and the title bar of the window displays
"Scribus 1.6.4 (Not Responding.")

Perhaps there is an issue with how Scribus accesses the files system in Windows 10?

Hi.
That's a fantastic idea... I've been using Scribus for years and often, when I have to review drafts, I'm forced to do these very repetitive actions from the menu. A shortcut would make the job much easier.
I had hoped to solve it with some script but, as you wrote, it's not possible at the moment to call a script with a key combination.
You did even better and I think the dialog box for defining the rules is excellent.
I really hope this feature can be implemented.

From what you provided it may not be easy to spot the issue. I'd fist try replacing the image files. If that doesn't work attach a copy of the file, if you can. do a collect for output and upload it to a file sharing site. (you may need to compress the file.)

This is my first use of Scribus and I'm making a page of 8 identical labels to print.
Each label has a copy of a 40k jpg image and 4 text frames with text.

Why does it take 7 minutes to load this file?

I'm running Win 10 with 16G memory and a i5-8600k cpu with 10G of free memory
and lots of unused GB on the ssd system drive and the separate data HD where
the file is stored. I have had no slowness issues with other applications.

I appreciate assistance in getting Scribus working faster. Thank you.

I did resolve it by using Open Tablet Driver in Absolute mode. It might create issues with other apps as Absolute mode is not working everywhere. You lose pressure sensitivity for example, so need to switch depend on needs. Other solutions is to switch to Windows or Mac. I asked about this on several places but nobody gives a * to be honest. I am 100% sure it  is Qt issue.

The problem is solved.
The Courier Stylus Font was stored in 3 different folders, which I deleted with the help of "ale", someone from https://bugs.scribus.net/ section.
Now it is working fine.
Thank you :)

Quote from: PelesDaughter on July 01, 2025, 12:01:30 AMAre you suggesting that I rename the Scribus folder to something else?

yes, something like "Scribus 1.6.4 backup".

then scribus will recreate "Scribus 1.6.4" for you.

if you're not happy with the result, you can always delete the newly created folder (if any has been created) and rename the old one back to "Scribus 1.6.4"

(of course, first close scribus...)
