General Discussion / Re: Master Page, not editable

Master pages in Scribus are essentially "page backgrounds".

If you want page templates, have a look at the scrapbook.

General Discussion / Master Page, not editable
Last post by rethus - Today at 01:14:20 PM
I have create a document which contain 2 sample pages, Landscape, and Portrait.
They also contain a given Text-Box-Structure I need for any new page.

If I add a page and use "Add Master-Page" from Mouse-Context-Menu, the page appear (with all it's textboxes), but I can not edit those Textboxes on the new page.

Why is that?

If I loog into the Layers Section, there is anything open to edit (means the Column with LOCK isn't activated).

Any suggestions how to fix this?

This sounds like it may warrant a bug report.

General Discussion / Re: When to use Scribus?

Quote from: utnik on March 11, 2024, 06:32:55 PMi use scribus for most print projects (flyers, brochures, books...)

what i really like in scribus is the microtypography (and – of course – the high quality .pdf generation...)

Same here. I really wish the hanging punctuation issue were solved though!

Just adding my two cents here — if your current designer is used to photoshop, I'd seriously consider using Krita instead of the GNU Image Manipulation Program. The interface is miles better and it has some key features that they might expect, such as adjustment / filter layers. Support for PSD files in Krita is also excellent.

oh wait, I'm realizing that the variable text as a mark feature is only meant for manually added text content. So I guess that I would need to write a script. I'll take a look at the documentation for the API and see what I can put together. I'll share what I come up with. If anyone has any ideas, post them here.

I want to create running footer with content based on text in specific paragraph styles.

I was going to start a new topic, but since this is related, I'll try it here. I want to know if the date variable was worked out, and if so, know if this is possible yet with the "Marks > Variable Text" feature.

I'm trying to use Marks for variable text in order to have a running footer which contains a specific name based on whatever text was last assigned a specific paragraph style. It's something that's in InDesign, but I've finally freed myself of Adobe with all FOSS (Inkscape, GIMP, Kdenlive, Audacity, & Scribus). This is the one sticking point.

Use Case > Anthology Example:

These are two of the paragraph styles in the document: "Content Author", "Content Title"

On each master page is:

Running Footer
%AUTHOR_NAME% | %page_number%

Running Header
%POEM_TITLE% | [Anthology Title]

%AUTHOR_NAME% represents whatever last text was in the paragraph style "Content Author", %POEM_TITLE% represents whatever text is next formatted in the "Content Title" paragraph style.

Most everything else is in either the paragraph style "Poem Text" or "Prose Text."

Is this possible? Or am I out of luck?

Hi. Thanks for this...it's ok, your reply alone helped me resolve it...completely forgot about the bleeds. Adjusted the inside bleeds to 0 and it's sorted. I wanted to use the digital file as a download alongside the print version, so this was driving me crazy! Thanks for this!

can you post up a little sample file with the image too?

I'm guessing margin, bleeds, differences between odd and even page sizes ...

General Discussion / Images across two pages
Last post by ijclark - May 08, 2024, 11:03:21 PM
At a bit of a loss...I'm creating a photography zine and in some places I have images over two pages. I created an image frame over the two pages to add the image, it all looks fine when I do a preview view, but when I export to PDF the image doesn't line up in the centre, between the pages. Is there something I'm overlooking here?
