I'm running Scribus version 1.4.8 on a 3 year old Windows 11 laptop. I have 500 gb SSD, 1 tb HDD and I have 1 tb of OneDrive storage. None of that comes even close to being full.

My laptop is an ASUS ROG Strix GL531GT-BQ170T.

Beginner Talk / Missing folders in file manager when importing anything
« Last post by DutchiePlays on September 22, 2022, 01:23:01 pm »
I just started using Scribus but I have a problem. When I want to import something (anything ranging from images, colours and so on) I don't see all my folders in the file manager.  ???

Is there a way to refresh the folders it looks through?

I already restarted the program and my laptop but that didn't help.  :'(

Layout Issues / Re: Automatic new pages

hi nick

in scribus 1.5, you can get something close to automatic text frames by creating the empty pages and then using

item > duplicate / transform > multiple duplicate > by page

to fill them with text frames linked to the current one.
you can do that a few times with a sane number of pages and at the end delete the pages that are "empty".

or you can create a document with "automatic text frames" but, normally, i advise you against using that, since it's not very flexible.

just drag and drop the saved inkscape page (.svg)

a few years ago, i've created a plugin that does it:

https://github.com/aoloe/scribus-plugin-applyStyle

- you need to compile scribus yourself and then add this plugin in the source code.
- i have not tested it in a while, so i'm not sure it still compiles with the current code.
- it's a bit rough but, if you get it to compile, it should work.

Vector graphics and postscript / Re: SVG images prints "rasterized" with jagged edges

The graphics are smooth in the pdf, so I guess that means I have to ask the printshop what went wrong. We have been meaning to change printshop anyway, I just wanted to make sure the problem didn't originate from my end.

Thanks for helping me narrow down the source of the problem!

Oh I was trying to export as an image. I see there's a resolution option there.

Click the image.
Press the F3 key (Image Properties)
Check the settings. If the Actual DPI is above 300 dpi, everything is ok.
Now do a Preview (Menu -> View -> Preview or the eye below the menu.
Then set the View from Normal to High (see attachment)
It might take a while to re-render the image, but it should be sharp on screen.
In the Preferences pane you can change the view to always HIGH as well.
Remember to set the export parameters to a minimum of 300 dpi — Scribus will scale the image accordingly for the PDF.

You will never lose any resolution, unless you specify 96 dpi in the PDF output. Scribus is a professional tool and not a gimmick for Internet gimmicks.
