Oh okay, I found the "DirectImageImport.py" script already. It was shipped with my scribus.

I would welcome adding it to the main "Insert" menu. I find it much more intuitive.

Found it while reading this article: https://hub.packtpub.com/scribus-importing-images/

Beginner Talk / Insert image without creating ...
Last post by lfpjdop9 - November 12, 2023, 01:38:43 AM
Is there a single "Insert Image" action? I could only find a workflow where you have to first create an image frame and then insert an image or drag and drop from the file browser. I'm looking for a:
1. Press shortcut "Insert image"
2. File browser appears
3. You choose an image file.
4. Image appears on the layout.

I'm trying to insert an image in the same way you would when drag and dropping an image from a file manager. Instead of drag and dropping it a file browser would appear in the same way when it appears when you press ctrl+D (Get Image) on an image frame.

I'm trying to avoid creating a frame and then adjusting it to the inserted image. The image has already correct size, so the behavior of drag and drop is desirable. But a single "Insert image" action would be useful.

Is that possible?

not that I know of, maybe you or someone could write a script that would do something like that

what you describe doesn't sound much different the dragging and dropping an image onto a page from a file manager to scribus

just tried it, you will need to dittle with the scaling if you don't already have an image frame on the page

Beginner Talk / how to add multiple images to ...

tl;dr: let's say i want to place a 100 image in 100 pages, is there a tool that let's me automatically do that?

i literally just heard about scribus today, and i think i will use for the rest of my life. thanks for the software.

my main use of affinity publisher was to make coloring books, and there is tool called place image.

the tool let's you select multiple images from a folder and then when you are back to the document all you have to do is drag the mouse and it will add the image. you then you can jump to a different page or stay in the same page where you can add another image.

it's handy if you want to make a coloring book or an image book and you don't care about the order.

so is there a tool like this in scrubus?

I'm wondering if there is an issue converting 1.4.x file a more advanced pdf. Would be interesting to hear what the developers have to add to this.

Sorry, I'm not that often here and lost this posting. However, the problem still persists.
Scribus v1.5.8
Windows 10 Pro (and 11 Pro), haven't tested it under Linux Mint yet as it's still a fresh install to be my main system in a dual-boot environment.

BTW, it might be a similar or even the same reason that Scribus has problems with some svg-files containing text. Sometimes it helps importing them into picture frames, but often even this fails.

Quote from: AdmFubar on November 11, 2023, 02:22:45 AMHow old are these files? and more specifically what version of scribus were they made with?
Most are marked as 1.5.4, but some of them might have been converted from 1.4.8. That has been the version I started using Scribus in 2018 (I think). The one I worked on yesterday was 1.5.5, just copied as a template and changed (a 2-pager greeting card containing just one photo as relevant element). This surely was originally created based on a 1.5.4 file.

I have to stress that I'm no pro in this field, working voluntarily in a NPO, and using Scribus rather occasionally. In order to be most flexible, I have Scribus installed as portable version on a fast USB-stick containing the content as well in order to assure a steady file structure (of course there are backups).

Hi, while knowing for quite while that others have had similar problems and how to solve them, I still wasn't able forcing Scribus 1.5.8 to allow a file export to pdf/x-4.

  • Yes, color-management is on (in general settings without files and when the file is open).
  • The right profiles are installed.
  • Standard PDF-export setting is PDF/x-4 (without and with the respective file is opened.
  • I've even tried the export without any pictures or colored objects (all deleted) - pure b/w text boxes -  same result.

Finally I created in a second tab a new document, same size and amount of pages (okay, just two  ;D ) and copied and pasted the complete content of the old file. BINGO, IT WORKED. Nice, but I wasn't able to detect any different setting.

What the heck can be done without the need of transferring the content to a new file? Where can I look at? Is there any thing in the source file I specifically can change (using Notepad++ or Notepadqq in Linux)?

I have a massive stock of old files that need to be refreshed just a bit from time to time.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

;D Thanks so much! I did a search on my thumb drive for .rc files and found 2 called Scribus140. I had to change the main window position in both, but once I did that, the main window is back! WHEW! What a relief!
Thanks to all of you!
