Why does LaTex seem to render so poorly in the "insert render frame"?
Any tips for improving the image?
If I recall right it is rendered as PDF, and Scribus will by default rasterize an embedded PDF. There is a checkbox for the experimental feature of not rasterizing PDF/EPS.

I've been looking for this "anti raster" checkbox but can't find it in Scribus 1.4.1
Where exactly is this option?
See below a screenshot of a rendered textframe alongside an imageframe.
And also a screenshot of editor from a rendered frame.
Each rendered frame seems to auto insert sample LaTeX code. I don't know why.
I would like the font rendering to be the same across text frame and rendered frame.
Thanks.

you'll find the 'embed pdf &eps files'-checkbox under:
'file' → 'document setup' → 'pdf-export' → 'general'.

hi dragonfly,
did you compile scribus yourself?
which distribution or OS?
iirc, the function is not available when scribus has been compiled without linking to podofo... which should only happen when you compile scribus yourself... (or you use a distribution like gentoo that compiles scribus for you on your computer)

I installed Scribus into Ubuntu 12.04 using Ubuntu Software Centre.
I've looked at the info and it reads as follows:
Version scribus 1.4.0.dfsg+r17300-1ubuntu1
The splash icon reads as Scribus 1.4.0
But when I run scribus --version in command terminal I get
Scribus Version 1.4.1.svn
I believe that I tried "check for updates" which might account for this.
Looking at this again it shows these options for updates ..
1.4.1
1.4.2.svn
1.5.0.svn
I guess I should be trying to compile from source code.
[Later edit]
I've now found this helpful thread which I'll try to follow.

Thanks.
hi dragonfly,
no, i was not suggesting you to compile scribus by yourself. just asking if you had done it.
from what you've written below, i would guess that the podofo version shipped with ubuntu is too old for scribus to use it.
you can try to add the scribus repositories and install scribus and podofo from there:

good luck!
