Title: Fact about Scribus 1.5
Post by: Danielsan on October 23, 2015, 08:52:41 PM
Hi guys, is that true you can't even open a previous sla file with Scribus 1.5 otherwise you will lose the editability with the previous version?

hi danielsan

not by opening – but when you save it with 1.5, you'll lose the possibility to edit (or even open) it with an older scribus version.
to be on the safe side, always open a copy of the file when you use scribus 1.5...

Fine, that is in fact the normal behavior but from the Launchpad page of Scribus this below is written in uppercase:
QuoteFILES OPENED WITH SCRIBUS-NG CAN'T BE OPENED BY SCRIBUS ANYMORE!!
FILES OPENED WITH SCRIBUS-TRUNK CAN'T BE OPENED BY SCRIBUS-NG OR SCRIBUS ANYMORE!!

And has made me pretty confused, thanks to clarify me that!

hi danielsan

those warning are indeed a bit too scary and not precise enough!

thanks for mentioning that!

i'll try to find a better wording and propose it to the PPA maintainer...

i'm suggesting to introduce the following wording:

SCRIBUS FILES ARE NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE.
FILES SAVED WITH SCRIBUS-TRUNK OR SCRIBUS-NG CAN'T BE OPENED BY OLDER VERSIONS OF SCRIBUS ANYMORE!!

Yes, the important part here is "saved". Scribus Won't save the file with new format just because you open it.

Files saved with Scribus version x can not be opened by Scribus version <x, but can be opened by Scribus version >x.
