Vector graphics and postscript / SVG images prints "rasterized" with jagged edges
« Last post by yoggo on September 17, 2022, 12:58:28 pm »

When exporting a pdf/X4, the svg images comes out with jagged edges and looks "rasterized" when printed by professional printers. The svg was made in inkscape with a transparent background. The magazine printed is in black and white without background color, som I'm not sure creating the image with a background color would solve the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As an alternative, you can select this option:

»Convert Spot Colors To Process Colors«

However, I can't guarantee a correct color output in printing.

I am on macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2026) and everything looks good so far. Been working with Scribus on a Mac for more than 10 years now, but never experienced your problem.

Maybe Monterey is too outdated or uses a different QT version? I've read somewhere that this might cause problems.

You can file bugs in the Mantis Issue Tracker:

anyone knows about it?
Back when I used FrameMaker, I could sail along writing as fast I thought and applying styles with keyboard shortcuts that prompted for the name of a ¶ or character style. I'd enter the first character or two of the style name, hit Return, and be on my way.

Is there a way to do that in Scribus? So far it seems I have to open a separate content properties window and use the pointer (taking my hands from the keyboard) to dig through a pop-up menu of styles.

Scribus is NOT a text editor, it is a page layout program.

Use a simple text editor to write your story, copy all content and insert it into the text frames of n pages as explained above.

Paste my text? I need to write my text. In FrameMaker, I would start up with one page, and as I wrote, I got new pages added, no hassle, no fuss. I don't know ahead of time how many pages I'm going to write. if I have to add a new page manually every time I hit the end of one, it's going to be a real hassle to write & edit anything using this program.
Beginner Talk / New to Scribus on macos

Hello, I am trying out 1.5.8 on macos Monterey. I understand that it's built using different libraries than native but some of the UI is pretty wonky. (At least it isn't actively hostile like Affinity Publisher.) Disclosure triangles aren't lined up, some UI elements are clipped, some panels are very crowded and hard to parse visually, some icons are cryptic. Nearly everything has a tooltip though, that's nice.

Any mac users have tips on how I can get acclimated? Any surprises or gotchas?

Also I find that scrolling with my trackpad often doesn't work; the view will shift a little, but then pop back to where it was. Using the scrollbars generally works, but sometimes when I resize the window the scrollbar doesn't resize and gets clipped so that I can't get to the scroll thumb.

Is there someplace to file bugs? I looked around on the forums here but didn't see one.

In KDE the alt key modifier will move the whole window.

to be more inclusive, you can press the alt key while selecting...
as usual, starting from an "empty" space.
User Interface / Re: IndigoUI: Color Picker and Editing

Hi a.l.e

Yes, I'm back. Currently, after I saw a lot of new UI improvements in other software like Blender, Inkscape or Gnome Desktop, I decided to continue working on Scribus' UI. This time with a different approach and as a separate project. To simulate some content, I used some Scribus code and modified it (like ScColor). Because of that, the UI is not compatible with Scribus directly, but that was not my intention. First, I want to have a result that works as is and later someone (or me) can think about how to marry Scribus with IndigoUI.  :D

Help is always welcome in the form of:
- feedback (the current result is based on my old concept, the form feedback here and state-of-the-art software like Affinity Publisher and Adobe InDesign)
- code contribution (also a good project/folder structure)
- icons (currently I'm using Material Design icons, because I'm too lazy to convert all Scribus PNGs to SVGs)

About your compiling issues, I can take a look into it.
Please, can you report all technical issues here?

I think it is better to keep the tech talk in the project directly.

I'm using Qt 6.2.3 with Qt Creator on Ubuntu 22.04. The code is never tests in other environments.
