Title: Entering/Editing Text in the Frame
Post by: trebor on July 30, 2015, 03:38:16 AM
I have not found a way to select text across two linked text frames (http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Working_with_text_frames).

I appreciate that using the Story Editor (http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Working_with_Story_Editor) is best practice for most text manipulation operations, however, I find that there are times when editing text (http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Toolbars#Toolbar_Icons:_Modify_Objects) within a Text-Frame (http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Working_with_text_frames#Entering.2FEditing_Text_in_the_Frame) is useful for minor changes and times when some form of Microtypography (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microtypography) (using the 'Text' section in the Properties box) is necessary to make the page look just right. BTW I find 'double clicking' on the text frame a quicker way to modify text within the frame than the tool bar option.

I think it is not possible to select text across two linked text frames.

I have searched the Scribus forum (http://forums.scribus.net/index.php?action=search) and the Scribus Wiki (http://wiki.scribus.net/wiki/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&profile=default&search=%22select+text%22&fulltext=Search) as well as scribus bugs (http://bugs.scribus.net/) without finding anything directly addressing this issue.

I hope I am not missing anything obvious  :-[

Just one more link to editing documentation (http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Editing) that may help someone.

I am using 1.5.1svn in Linux Mint 17

Any comments or tips most welcome. I'd also appreciate any comment on how difficult this feature would be to implement.

I am considering creating an account at the Scribus bugs (http://bugs.scribus.net/signup_page.php) site so I can add this and a (few other items) as requests or ideas for the developers to consider.

I found a couple of wishlist topics Forum topic 'ideas for improvement' (http://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,1632.0.html) but as that is in the 'Free discussion' subject area, and quite old, I feel that the Scribus Bugs site would be the best place for adding ideas & wish-lists. A more recent topic with a good list Ideas for new features (Wishlist) (http://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,1021.0.html)

QuoteI have not found a way to select text across two linked text frames.

there is none, for now.

there have been tries to allow this, but iirc they failed.

QuoteI appreciate that using the Story Editor[/url] is best practice for most text manipulation operations

it is *not* best practice at all.

it is to be used when in frame editing fails.

QuoteBTW I find 'double clicking' on the text frame a quicker way to modify text within the frame than the tool bar option.

that's the best practice way to edit and format text.

i'm not sure if you already have discovered the "windows > properties" palette..

and, yes the issue trucker at http://bugs.scribus.net is the right place to submit (and partially for discussing) bugs and features request.

but also discussions going on in here are read by a few developers and taken into consideration!

have fun with scribus!

Hi,

is there still no way to  select text across two linked text frames?

The postings are quite old, but I did't find out this in 1.5.4.svn...

Best regards,

Adriana
