Beginner Talk / Precisely adjusting contour li...
Last post by kenerling - February 27, 2025, 09:55:51 AM
Hi all,

"Stock" Windows 10 Home, Scribus 1.6.2.

At Properties > Shape > Edit > (verify that "Move nodes" is pressed and check "Edit Contour Line"), there are the choices of "Enlarge/Shrink the size of the path by shown %" and "Enlarge/Reduce the size of the path by shown value."

Both apply the indicated modification to all sides of the contour line: top, bottom, left, right.

⇒ How does one constrain those modifications to only the vertical (top, bottom) or horizontal (left, right) axis? And, for that matter, to only any one side?

There surely has to be some combination of modifier keys to do that, yes?

While experimenting with modifier keys, I did discover that one can control-click to lock a node to its two attached neighbors, but moving "by hand" in this manner lacks precision... EDIT: And I'll add that I know that any one node can be selected and moved using the X-Pos and Y-Pos boxes, but that's a bit laborious.

Thanks in advance and cheers to all.

Oh so this is it. Well, I will upgrade to 14 at a time, but not now.
BTW, 1.6.2 works, with some annoying UI bugs I can cope with.

Scribus is built for macOS 11.. but it seems the Qt library is built for 14. Not sure how I can work around that.

yes I did read this. I also read that the minimum version supported should be MacOS 13 Ventura: https://www.scribus.net/downloads/

And this topic also: https://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,5848.0.html
And this bug: https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=17409

Why I post here is that the normally fixed version doesn't work for me on Ventura.

Did you read the error message? It says "built for macOS 14.0 which is newer than running OS".

I'm not dragging the .dmg, I open it then drag the icon/app.

And I'm a Mac user for more than 20 years, a Scribus user for more than 10.

I am no Mac expert but I think you are not supposed to drag the dmg to the applications folder, you are supposed to open the dmg and drag the Scribus application to the applications folder.

Hi,
I installed from the scribus-1.6.3_1-arm64.dmg in the Applications folder. I'm running a Mac M1 with Ventura 13.7.4.
When I try to open Scribus, it crashes. Here is a part of the report:
