Layout Issues / Maintaining layout only (not c...
Last post by zenny - November 30, 2024, 07:15:11 AM
Hi,

I just imported a PDF from my old designs (the original were lost) as vector image, but could not figure out to maintain the old page layout only, but not contents. Is there a way to do so?

I tried grouping the layout, but the sections that contains texts also get grouped together. I want to fill-in new contents by using the layout as a placeholder.

Thanks and Cheers,
/zenny

this '#' symbol in the scribus help might be outdated. in recent versions i see a real number in the masterpage. (but the way to insert page numbers didn't change...)

Beginner Talk / Preserving italics from EPUB t...
Last post by Gy1l0om - November 29, 2024, 02:38:07 PM
Hello there !

I'm re-editing texts I have in EPUB format. I believe Scribus cannot import EPUB texts directly (is that correct?), so I thought of converting them to TXT files first. Which works decently well with a few tweaks. One problem I still have is the loss of all formatted text, mainly italics.

What would be the easiest way to keep italicized text from an EPUB file ? Can I use simple HTML tags such as <i></i> in my TXT file ? I would then search and replace whatever way the EPUB files use for indicating italic style and replace it by a simple <i> tag ?

Thanks a lot for your guidance !

Beginner Talk / # symbol not appearing on mast...

Hello,

I can insert numbers on the Master page (and the numbering is visible on the normal pages).

However the # symbol is not visible on the Master page text box where I inserted the number.

I can edit the number, using the edit text box, but nothing appears on the Master page itself (the changes are correctly appearing on normal pages, with the edits).

It's not a big problem, but I'm wondering what's happening ?

I have the same or a similar problem: I can insert numbers on the Master page, and the numbering is visible on the normal pages.

no, it's not the .dmg!
you should drag the 'scribus.app' to the applications folder!

...but it's strange anyway. scribus runs from everywhere. i can even start it from the .dmg. (just tested under mac os 15.1.1 – should work as well with sonoma...)
there are applications that won't run from other places than the applications folder (i.e. rawtherapee). but scribus is not one of them.

I've downloaded Scribus into my app folder but it won't install when I double click or right click. It just tells me to drag the dmg into the apps folder, but it's already there. Tried redownloading to desktop and dragging to apps folder, but no luck. Have googled for a solution and see that other people have had similar issues with different apps, and were advised to contact the developer. So here I am, hoping for a solution.

They seemed to have preflight profiles available for InDesign (I think), I am not sure if those can be utilized for Scribus?

Ok, it was possible to download by just checking the tickbox allowing them to send marketing... Without giving an e-mail.

The whole specification seems to be for ads, because it specifies the number of pages shall be exactly 1.

Using this profile for a 1 page PDF will then of course fail.

They are also forbidding a lot of colorspaces...

Nice found, Nermander!

I'm opening a ticket in the bug tracker and we will see if

  • the team thinks that such a specification is "relevant",
  • there is any way to ensure that the profiles defined in there can be supported by Scribus

Sounds like there needs to be a resource for scribus users to locate them. A wiki for users to list print houses that dont have issues with scribus generated pdf's would be useful. Maybe even branding for them to display on their sites as well. Just a thought or two.
