more notes...

what about capturing the (shift-)tab key, while the tools are active?
  • for shapes, it would scroll through the default shapes (as presented in the shape drop downs)
  • for the zoom it would go back and forth in the recent zoom level
  • for the other tools, we can implement a behavior as soon as we find a good one.

nö, you need to go to the Content Properties (F3).

most people have it docked to the right side of their screen (i think it's the default starting with 1.7)

i would try "file > import > get vector file" and see if scribus can import the pdf correctly as native shapes.

if that fails:

  • you might want to open a ticket in https://bugs.scribus.net and attach the pdf (you can mark the upload as private, then only the devs will see it).
  • try to load the pdf in an image frame.

How did you "import" the PDF?

If it is a logo, it would probably make sense to use an image frame.

If you are using the import function from the File menu I think it may try to import as vector graphics, but you may be better of taking the detour through doing that part in Inkscape to get an SVG.

Linux / Off Page Frames not visible
Last post by itchka - March 19, 2025, 04:09:53 PM
Hello can anyone help. My distro has updated to scribus 1.7svn. It is working fine apart from one thing.. I cannot see off page frames. It used to be possible to use the off page area as a kind of holding area but although the frames can be placed there they are no longer visible. Is there some obscure setting I need to change?

Beginner Talk / Dividing my Text Frame into co...

I am new to Scribus (using 1.6.3) and have run into a problem on my first page. I regularly produce a newsletter with a masthead and a series of articles, each in two columns. Each article comprises two Text Boxes, the first with the Title and Author, the second with the main body of the article. I had no problem with creating the Masthead with an Image Box and a couple of small Text Boxes. I was able to create the entire document with two columns, but this does not seem to allow me to create separate articles with two columns. I used the help facility for 'columns' and I cannot find anything that works. Most of the information seems to be for previous versions of Scribus.

Right-clicking in a Text Box would seem to be the obvious route, but this does not bring up any options for columns either in the main list or in any sublist.

the 'z key' tip alone is very useful - thanks!

Quote from: AdmFubar on March 15, 2025, 05:08:36 AMHaving a key combo to move the contents of a window around kind of fell by the wayside. Better mice these day use the scroll wheel for such actions. I take it you use a standard apple mouse?
If so you may want to invest in a mouse with more options.
I have a logitech 705, the scroll wheel has besides the scroll up and down has a left and right scroll, plus a click if I push down on it.  Not certain that macs support this type of actions via the mouse. I would think they have such support for it.

You can add key combos for the zoom action, via the preferences. It is the third selection on the left in the preferences window. (file/preferences) Scroll or collapse the menu entries in the list will you find "View". You can add the needed key combo to a zoom level.

Hope this helps.

Very helpful - thankyou!
