Title: Importing 2x 400 page books, one with pictures, one without... help?
Post by: nijineko on October 13, 2021, 12:34:39 AM
I am very new to Scribus.

I searched around for some documentation and tutorials and followed what I found about having Scribus automatically create extra frames upon import, but it did not work as described or hoped.

Looking for guidance on how to import (as two separate projects) two 400 page books, one text only, the other text with pictures.

Both are coming from an ODT file format.

I am open to any suggestions and guidance.

hi nijineko

it's easy to import text fron an .odt file.
but in my interpretation of your problem you finished the whole page layout in openOffice or libreOffice and try to import this work in a scribus file. if i'm right, this is not a supported task. scribus is not an .odt-to-something-else converter. the main task of scribus is the page layout itself and the export in a high quality print file.

now your choices are:
good luck

  • generate your print file with your office program.
  • import the text (formatted, if you used paragraph styles...) and do the layout work again.

You are correct in that I did finish it in LibreOffice first, but I am not trying to convert it to anything else.

I do not mind doing the layout work again, in fact, that is what I intend to do and why I am trying to import it into Scribus.

Yes, I did use paragraph styles.

However, Scribus cannot seem to import the text only document at all as it pretty much crashes every time I try.

What is the OS you are using, and the specs of the machine? Mostly interested in the amount of ram.

Then why do you want to import it into Scribus?

LibreOffice can export directly to PDF.
