I use SpiderOak but don't take that as a recommendation.
You might be better off with just an external hard dive.

hi rr

under 'properties' → 'colors' you can select 'knockout' or 'overprint' for each object.

Installation and Setup / scribus on 4k display
Last post by busscri - August 30, 2024, 02:04:49 PM
Hello

I am using Scribus 1.6.2 on a 4K display and it is very painfull. Is there a way to upscale things?
I heard that scribus 1.7 might handle this much better. But I could not find a way to run it on my ubuntu machine.

I never imagined that I would care this much about different fonts for normal text, but getting into game design has done terrible things to my brain...

Installation and Setup / Activate the overprint functio...

Hi everyone!

For our daily work with Scribus we need the overprint function. In the Scribus Wiki it is stated that overprinting can be activated as of version 1.3.4 (Pre-Press - Scribus Wiki). I'm currently using Scribus version 1.6.2 but somehow, I can't find the setting where overprinting can be activated. Where in the settings can I activate overprinting? I'm using Scriber on a Windows 11 machine.

Thank you very much for your answers.

Do you use cloud storage services? What pros and cons do you see in this? For example, services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive provide the ability to store files online and access them from any device. However, the question of data security and privacy arises. Do you think we can fully trust cloud storage services, or is it better to store important files locally?

PDF Generation / Re: Incorrectly Scaled Drop Sh...

I should also mention that I'm working with a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 (installed yesterday morning).

I just tried importing the example PDF in Kubuntu 22.04, on a different  computer, using both Scribus 1.6.1 and 1.5.7.  The transparencies imported correctly in this case.

This seems to point towards something outside of Scribus that is used to interpret and render the PDF during export.

I'm not very familiar with what libraries Linux uses to display/process PDFs.  The only thing I'm aware of that might have an impact on this is Poppler.  Checking versions between Kubuntu 22.04 and Kubuntu 24.04, 22.04 uses poppler version 0.4.11-1 and  24.04 uses poppler version 04.12-1.

I don't know if I can backup to the version that Kubuntu 22.04 is using.  I'll look into this, but any help or ideas are appreciated.

I just tried saving a PDF of the example project through through the print dialog. I then reimported this new PDF by dragging and dropping (Opening the file through the "file" menu looks to be the same as drag and drop).  The results are the same.  bad transparency on the drop shadow effect.

Sorry, I didn't answer all of your questions.

Quote from: AdmFubar on August 30, 2024, 07:55:30 AMHow are you importing/opening the pdf into scribus?

I'm just dragging and dropping into Scribus for the import.  I haven't checked to see if there is another way of doing this.  I'll look into that now.

Using the file>export option in Scribus.  I haven't tried the print to file option through the print dialog yet.

Just to double check, are you trying to import the PDF into Scribus in Linux?  If so, what version of Linux are you using?

I suspect this is a "backend" issue.  Kubuntu 24.04 might be using some backend libraries/versions that other distros aren't using to process PDFs, and that might be what is causing this issue for me.  Knowing your distro might help me narrow down a potential difference.

I'm going to try the print to PDF to see if the issue is the same or not.
