Beginner Talk / What to do about crashes?
Last post by BookLover - March 09, 2025, 09:01:59 AM
While using Scribus, I've noticed that the Notes Styles menu can crash repeatedly in certain circumstances.

What should I do to contact the developers and help them fix this problem?

What "T" in what box are you clicking on? Once you create a text frame, it should be the selected object in your document, the frame will be the selected object color and have handles to change the size of the text frame. If not you will need to select it again. If you double click the the text frame the handles should disappear and you can now enter text directly.

Sounds like the size or colour of the text is set so you cannot see it. Check settings on the Content Properties window.

Beginner Talk / Text cannot be inserted into t...

Here's what I am doing:  I click on the T icon and create a text frame where I want it.  I then click on the T in a box, and a blinking insertion bar appears in the top left corner of the text frame.  I start typing, and nothing happens.

However, if I right-click on the frame, select Content and then "Edit Text with Story Editor," all the text I've typed is there.  However, there appears to be no way to get that text to be displayed in the text frame.

What am I doing wrong?  All worked properly for the first text frame I created in the document, and the trouble started when I tried to create a second frame and put text in it.  Now, even that first frame appears to contain no text, even though it's all still in the Story Editor window.

Forgot to mention that I am running on Linux Mint 22.1 Xia Cinnamon, using ver. 1.6.1 of Scribus.

Windows / Re: 1.6 Installation Issue

why are you uploading scribus to that site?

please install one -- and a single one -- antivirus you trust on your computer and follow what it says to you.

the microsoft defender that probably comes with your copy of windows, is probably the most sane choice (if your windows is up to date; if it's not, you're screwed anyway).

i mean: you downloaded the exe from our site and now you comme to us asking if it's ok?
of course it is ok!
what do you expect us to tell you?

Hello, when uploading the current Windows version "scribus-1.6.3-windows-x64.exe" to "virustotal.com" the virus scanner "bkavPro" returns the infection "W32.AIDetectMalware". Does anyone know for sure if this is a FALSE POSITIVE? Thank you very much.

for what i am concerned, i'm waiting for

0017162: [PATCH] apply style "shortcuts" based on the "action search" tool
https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=17162

to be merged and then we can start thinking how to integrate that with adding shortcuts for additional text formatting.
the typographic ones included.

we will need to find out what needs to be cover:

  • which formatting should be applied with the keyboard (theoretically all of them!)
  • how to make it easy, to apply the most important ones?
  • do we need similar shortcuts for other types of content?
  • ...

I wonder if you could implement a kind of "scrapbook" of styles that could be applied/collected via an eyedropper tool? just a rambling thought.

Thank you very much for your insight and response. I will consider how to best share any opinions on what would help me (and perhaps others) produce needed results from Scribus. For my personal page layout software, for now, in order to meet my needs as a typesetter, I will have to stay with QX. I think Scribus software is a great solution for DTP and fills a void in the need to move toward opensource solutions. Thanks again. -B
