Sorry about the delay in response - I meant to get back to this and it just didn't happen.

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMmartin is proposing a new widget for colors. would you mind discussing with him, a way to integrate the color creation in there?
Sure, I'll open a new topic.

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMit would be nice to have somebody create a list of detailed feature (my pet feature would be to keep the imported colors inside of the frame and not pollute the document's colors list)
What sort of things do you think ought to be mentioned? IMO it ought to work just like raster images in frames. I agree with you on the colors list.

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMlinked vector graphics:
that's probably a sub task of vector graphics in frames... i guess.
Yes, I suppose so. Now that I think of it, an option to link or embed (convert to Scribus curves) would be useful. I suppose a big hurdle here might be the lack of a good QT SVG renderer (Like KDE is dealing with when generating SVG thumbnails for dolphin). Linking is imminently useful because you can open end edit with your preferred vector editor, save, and the linked SVG updates in Scribus)

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMhttps://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=15560 ? if it's that please test the patch (if possible) and / or comment on its description
No, what I meant was something like this: When moving an image inside of its frame, you can hold shift / ctrl / whatever key to constrain image movement to only the x or y axis. That way, if you have already positioned an image vertically, you can hold a key and drag it horizontally only without losing the vertical position.

scribus does snap to bleed...
more reliable snapping]:
what is missing for you?
Since writing my original post, I have upgraded my system to Plasma 6 (and thus, wayland). I haven't experienced any weirdness with snapping since, and the framerate when dragging items seems much improved also.

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMdockable paragraph / character styles dialog:
for editing the styles or applying them?
It would be nice to have a panel that displayed a list of styles. From that panel, the user could make a new style (this could open and use the existing styles dialog), apply a style to either an entire text frame or selected text, clear style overrides from text frames / selections, delete, duplicate, and rename existing styles. To be honest, this functionality could even be incorporated into the text properties panel.

https://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=579 / personally, i'd prefer a button in the palette, rather than a context menu.
Yea, now that I think about it I agree with you on that one.

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMi'm currently working on a proposal for the simplest use case: creating a line style based on the selection. if i get it to work, i'll propose it to martin and see if/how he can integrate it in his UI work.
This will make a big difference in speeding up workflow! Having to directly set up styles in the styles dialog really slows me down when I'm just trying to play around and see what works before committing. (Of course, I know that I could play around anyway, but I'd just have to duplicate all of that work in the styles dialog)

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMit's not easy to get specific features to be added to scribus.

maybe, the best thing one can do is to comment on the patches that have been done and help the brave ones that do make patches to improve them.
and, when the patches seem to be ready, help convince the team that it's now time to review the code and give feedback : - )
Yea, I'll need to explore Mantis a bit more. I'm used to other platforms and I find it quite difficult to search through Mantis.

Quote from: a.l.e on January 26, 2024, 11:29:02 PMsadly, creating conceptual UI / UX papers has only worked once in the history of scribus...
and it only worked because the persone having written the proposal got proficient enough in c++ to create a prototype of it and, then, step by step also programmed real widgets that can be integrated into scribus.
it took years, but it's one of the best things that have happened to scribus in the last many years!
(thanks martin for all your work!)
YES - I'm doing a lot of work in 1.7.0SVN from the AUR at the moment (yea, I know I shouldn't haha); what an amazing difference! Scribus really is becoming not only capable, but a joy to use.

Regarding #3 - I would love to be able to have the program remember where I've left my tool windows on another monitor, so I can use my larger main screen to do editing and work, and I can press buttons and fill in details on the "toolbox windows" on my smaller screen off to the side.

I just noticed that yes, you can dock the toolboxes, but then my document editing area shrinks - which for me is not idea.

They should be 100% Black - they are 300% mixture of CMYK.
In booklet every page with notes have same mistake.
Pages made in Scribus are fine, 100% Black as they should be.

Does all text have to be searchable?

I had not noticed that. In fact, all the PDF output from Musescore has registration black instead of K black.  :'(

Hi-res pngs work fine, of course (they are large); have still not tried what Scribus does with MuseScore's SVGs, which are quite heavy as well.
Unfortunately, these are all workarounds which do not allow me to keep text searchable.

Scribus, being an open-source platform, has its own set of strengths, especially when it comes to creating print-ready files and precise document setup. However, as you've pointed out, the speed of workflow can be a hurdle for many users. Your suggestion to focus on improving this aspect could significantly benefit the Scribus community, potentially making it a more attractive option for professionals accustomed to the rapid iteration capabilities of other design software.

Beginner Talk / Table of Content
Last post by tobiascock - May 06, 2024, 01:42:03 PM
Hello everyone,

I'm relatively new to Scribus and have encountered a challenge regarding the Table of Contents feature.

I've successfully created a TOC using text frames with attributes. However, I've run into an issue when attempting to add these text frames with attributes as inline objects inside another text frame. Unfortunately, when I do this, the headers are no longer displayed in the TOC.

My intention behind inserting the text frames as inline objects is to create a document that behaves more like a Word document. I'm linking multiple text frames across different pages, ensuring that if an inline object (the text frame with the header text and TOC attribute) is pushed down to the next page, the TOC updates automatically with the correct page number.

My question is: Is it possible to achieve this functionality with Scribus? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

probably, the "problem" is that you have activated the baseline grid, which forces the text to align to it.

if you really want a space after that paragraph you need to:

- disable the alignment to the baseline grid for the next paragraph, or
- define a space below that is a multiple of the baseline grid

depending on the reasons why you choose to activate the baseline grid, you might want to mark the new paragraphs with an indent rather than a space above.

Hi
Very new to Scribus (version 1.4.7) and I am having trouble with getting a style correct. Don't seem to be able to get a narrow break between paragraphs. Not matter if I even type in a 0.50 it is still a large one.

Am I missing something?? ;D

Also, when I move a text frame it sometimes puts a space at the top even though I don't have a space set in the style its when I adjust the height etc

If I am not wrong, a PDF can be added to a Scribus document in different ways. Did you try to import the PDF into an image frame?

Because I think otherwise the contents of the PDF is imported as individual objects.

But I am not sure if importing it to an image frame causes it to be rasterized.

I tried it, the pdf imported/opened as a vector graphic. I looked OK but all the text was outlined and you couldn't used a text search on it. I think that's the end goal here for the op, text searching the exported pdf after it's assembled in scribus.
