Title: Tab Stops
Post by: Wena on April 27, 2012, 01:05:01 PM
I cant see that posting a few pages would help. The graphic I have attached shows the problem better. I had set a tabular stop in the 'Preference>Tubular and chose the setting for the stop on the ruler that I have marked.

But with every page this has moved so I am unable to just use the tab stop on the computer keyboard.

I have attempted it a stile and that didn't do any better.

Here's what I did to do some testing:

1. Created a new double-sided doc with automatic text frames on 4 pages.
2. Selected text frame on the first page > Sample text, to add some text.
3. F3 to create a new paragraph style which I named TabTest for which I set first line indent to 6mm, and added a left tab to 12mm.
4. Selected text frame on the first page again > F2 (Properties palette) > Text > Style Settings > TabTest. The first line of every paragraph gets indented at 6mm, and the left tab I created is exactly at 12mm as it was set in TabTest paragraph style. If you change 12mm to 6mm for the left tab (so that it matches first line indent), it stays at 6mm throughout the document, no moving around.

Please try doing these steps and tell us where the problem occured.

Meho R.

Thank you very much.
I never need to do left and right pages but to set the tabs I do it the same as you. Just in case I have misunderstood the process. The Tab stop is that "L" shape on the ruler, the small red box you have in your Illustration.

I think the indents in the text my have had spaces put in working in Microsoft Word. I will persevere a little longer.

Yes, "L" it is. It's selected in the Style dialog (that's why it's red). I wouldn't be surprised if the import from MS Word is the cause of the problem. You should see how a .doc file looks when exported to .tex. It's an irreparable mess.

Thank you very much, I am looking around to see if there is an alternative in the way of importing files and retaining formats.

The tab stops moves as I work through the file. it is a tedious job as is without that problem!!!

If you remove formatting from a paragraph and then apply a paragraph style created in Scribus, with correct tab stops, do they move then? I cannot reproduce the problem and don't know where to start, actually.
