Apologies for delay in replying, work issues and vacationing!

I'm going to spend some time prototyping some ideas to see what does and doesn't work and present some results for critique and direction back here when I have something to show.

Definitely agree that the one-file-per-profile approach is the smartest and undefined values get defaulted 8)

Apologies for delay in replying to this, I was firefighting some QXP issues and had some vacation time.

I'm not against welding but when I had a play with this I couldn't easily wrangle it behave how I needed; but that might be lack of understanding on my part.

One of the "pros" for implementing column flow as part of the existing text frame is it could be set as a style property, so in the story editor it would be incredibly easy to style (or import a pre-styled story) and your plain text frame suddenly looks a lot like a publishable article.

I personally think the way QXP and ID implemented column flow is just wrong - it's far too liberal and allows bizarre levels of complexity and user stupidity/danger. Most of which normal professional users wouldn't/shouldn't ever need.

I think if Scribus had this feature it should be as simple as possible (just to allow a headline) which would solve for 90%+ of use cases in newspapers and magazines. Anything above that should be done with multiple frames. By deliberately retarding the functionality we could nudge the user in to using the right tool for the job.

I want to play more with frames and welding because my initial learning didn't seem to go so well and I want to make sure I didn't miss anything.  In your suggestion, am I understanding right that I need to pre-create a scrap book of welding styles?

best solution i can think of off the top of my head, is to use a master page.
add an extra blank page with a text frame in it the size needed for your other pages, and edit the frame properties to add the number of columns needed. in the page dropdown in the main menu bar,  select convert to master page.
once you have the master page set up you can apply it to the rest of your document. again in the page menu, select the apply master page, a window will open and you can select the master page you wish to apply in the drop down menu.then you just need to apply the master page to the rest of the document.
There is a range option, you need to click the select all option to activate the range parameter.

If your document isnt a facing page layout you wont have to worry about make a left and right master pages to keep the margins in the right order.

Beginner Talk / Placing columns in multiple li...
Last post by Stranger - October 10, 2024, 04:20:33 PM
Hi,

I have a Scribus document with a lay out of multiple linked text boxes.

I would like to put columns throughout the document, but I am unable to have the columns feature on more than the one text box (although they are linked).

When I carry out other operations, changing the font for example, the changes are immediately carried out to all linked text boxes. Is there no way to do this?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows how to do this.

hi richard

looks fine here.
i converted the image to .png (as this is what you placed...) and exported your .sla file without changing the .pdf settings. there is no white line at the bottom or at any other side. (mac os, scribus 1.6.2, acrobat and foxit reader)
i checked 'print preview' as well and couldn't find your issue.
