General Discussion / book --> delete page --> all t...
Last post by richard2023 - March 30, 2023, 08:35:40 AM
I've made a book with 20 pages. With a leftpage and a rightpage with different margins.
Now I delete page 5 (rightpage). So page 6 (leftpage) is now page 5. With "apply masterpage" I can change the layout of page 5, so now page 5 is a rightpage.
But the textframes did not change from position. They are outside the left margin. I can move them manualy frame by frame, and put them inside the margins. But that's a lot of work.
How can I do this automaticly?

Sounds as if the print shop printed the bleed area. Whether that is correct or not depends on your page size and the paper size the printer uses.

For example if I design an A4 document with 10 mm bleed and the printer prints this on A4 paper, I would expect that the bleed is not printed (because the document would have to be scaled down to fit the bleed on the paper).

If the printer however prints on larger paper and then cut them to A4, I would expect the bleed to be printed and then mostly cut off when the paper is cut.

Hm... those are basically the same steps that I always use. I just tried it on a new file and it worked. I guess that the newsletter file I have been working on is corrupted somehow. Well, that's a bummer, I guess I have to start my newsletter template over again.
Thank you for your help!

Quote from: northarch on January 02, 2023, 11:46:55 PMAh, the package installs both the otf and t1 versions of the font. From looking at the Font Preview window, it appears that Scribus is choosing to use the t1 version. If otf is better supported, is there a way that I can force Scribus to use that version instead of t1 (without removing the file, since it's managed by the package)?

I have the exact same problem with P052 (URW Palladio) which is another of the URW-base35 fonts.

Everything was working fine in Scribus 1.5.7 until I recently upgraded to Fedora37 and Scribus 1.5.8. Now the tracking is all other the place (weird spaces or, to the reverse, some words appear interlaced).

I observe the same phenomenon in font preview and preferences/fonts : type 1 is being used while the otf file is ignored. With, seemingly, no possibility to force Scribus to use the otf version.

I'm working on a fairly large document (170 pages, complex layout) and it would require a non-trivial amount of work to simply swap this font for another one. I'd really like a solution for this problem, Scribus seems to have broken compatibility with the URW-base35 packages between 1.5.7 and 1.5.8 and this severely impacts my work.

Is there a way to tell Scribus to simply use the otf file?

I tried it again
seemed to work

I using 1.5.8 from a flathub.org on fedora 36

did
made a new document
then Edit>Master Pages
put a text box and typed "blah blah blah blah" into it
clicked on the little shoes and drug a box around the two middle "blah blah"
then double clicked the link frame and the menu for the options popped up
picked External Link and set it to some jpg I have in that directory
then clicked the "End Edit" for the master pages
seemed to work but I didn't export the document and try the pdf

let me know if you have different steeps and I'll try it again.

Yes, it's the little shoes button. It's an external link, but it crashes before I can even choose that. It's only happening if I try to use that feature on a Master page.
Thanks.

I don't think we have changed anything in 1.7.0.svn vs 1.5.9.svn with regards to character styles. They should be equivalent. Using 1.5.6 however, no guarantees. We will release 1.6.0 soon enough.

what AdmFubar said

I would suggest usually ticking the 'Use Document Bleeds'
then the bleed area will be what you set it to for your document, can make the output more predictable.

You get the extra 1/4 inch as you are adding 1/4" bleeds to your document that have a 1/4" margin. 1/4"+1/4" = 1/2".
Check with your printer they may want you to add bleed marks to your document, that way they will know to trim the pages.

I take it it is the darker pink line running through the image? What are you using to create the image with?
