While you are thinking about making changes here.. I'd like to be able to align objects within a text column to the column edge.

I bet the window position in the config file is set to something weird. Two options here, navigate to the config file and without scribus running, rename the file, then restart scribus, open the document you want to edit and open the story editor for the text you want to edit. You may need to redo some of the preferences for scribus if you made any changes in them. When you restart scribus without a configuration file it will create a default.

You can also navigate to the scribus (or do a search for it) config, it is named prefsxxx.xml were the xxx is the version you are using. in that file search for StoryEditor, some of the values are probably set to something extreme. Mine loos like this;

<context name="StoryEditor">
<attribute key="height" value="400"/>
<attribute key="left" value="10"/>
<attribute key="main" value="-1"/>
<attribute key="side" value="-1"/>
<attribute key="top" value="10"/>
<attribute key="width" value="600"/>
<attribute key="winstate" value=""/>
</context>

Most likely the left and/or top values have incorrect values.

I've been thinking about the new implementation of the Align and Distribute palette and looking at the two sections, I think the Distribute section has some redundant buttons.

There are 8 buttons that control the distances between objects.

I think you could also add a reference selection here, and then just one button each for horizontal and vertical distribution.

The mode contains two options:
1. Absolute (enables and takes into account the distance input)
2. Relative (automatically calculated distances)

@a.l.e what do you think?

InDesign has a nice implementation for text frame linking. They don't have a tool at all. The text frame linking/unlinking is integrated in the text frame itself on canvas. I also like the key modifier options.

Some time ago I made a concept of the text frame which is inspired by InDesign and other DTP software.

Scribus could have similar "slots" on the text frame to pull out and connect text frames. A more advanced implementation compared to InDesign and others could be to place the slots on different positions based on text direction of the text frame.

A text frame tool in Scribus could be used like a pen to draw a line from one text frame to another one to connect them. In example, if you have 3 text frames in 3 columns. You could draw a straight line from left to right to connect all 3 text frame in the order of drawing.
If the text frame tool is active, you see all connection on canvas. By clicking on a connection line, you unlink the connected text frames.

But the drawing approach is very similar to your proposal of text frame selection.

Have you considered ScribusGenerator Python script? I think that it might be a good match. Certainly I plan to use it in my workflow to customise documents. And if you import SVG you can customise SVG images further. Different languages and so on.

Hi Utnik,
Sorry but I didn't get it. In the popup menu of a text frame if I click on properties I get a frame where I can trim the style of the text but I can't for instance correct errors like orthographic mistakes.
I do work know with two monitors but my story editor doesn't appear anywhere. What's funny is that some minutes ago I got the story editor open but now I can't. So much time lost !
Thank you in advance for explanation (but don't waste yours)
Regards

Thank you Utnik,
I'll try your solution. As far as dinosaurs are concerned, in my family they know hat I'm a human beeing of ancient times, it fits. By the way, since we both live in Switzerland, probably both of us struggle for writing in a foreign language which I do not master ! Funny.
Best regards

I am revisiting this forum after a break of several years. So I am very rusty.

I am playing with importing various file types of the XML category.

Now IDML output might be converted to SVG then imported.

https://gilbertconsulting.com/scripts

I am exploring restructuring SVG objects before import to Scribus.

In short I am developing a pipeline of tools where Scribus is one important end link. But after Scribus there is posting to a synced datavault for secure document delivery to specified parties.

Another interest is using external tool to "scaffold" Scribus SLA. "Sketching" the layout of Scribus and drawing together assets.
