Re:  Looking at the Adobe instructions for Acrobat, you only seem to be able to set:

I found similar information as well, so it looks like I might just have to accept that margins or padding is not an option for me.

Too bad...

Thanks for your help!

Looking at the Adobe instructions for Acrobat, you only seem to be able to set:
Border Color: Choose a color for the field frame or opt for no frame.
Line Thickness: Determine the thickness of the field frame (Thin, Medium, or Thick).
Fill Color: Select a background color for the field or keep it transparent.
Line Style: Alter the appearance of the frame with options like Solid, Dashed, or Underline.
Font Size: Set the size of entered text or selection markers, with an Auto option for dynamic resizing.
Text Color: Choose a color for the text or selection marker.
Font: Select from available fonts on your system (not applicable for non-text displaying fields).
and
Alignment: Aligns text left, right, or center.
Default Value: Initial text in the field.
    Multi-line: Allows multiple-line entries.
Scroll Long Text: Compensates for extended text.
Allow Rich Text Formatting: Enables text styling.
Limit Of Characters: Sets character limit.
Password: Displays entered text as asterisks.
Comb of characters: Spreads the user-entered text evenly across the width of the text field. If a border color is specified in the Appearance tab, each character entered in the field is separated by lines of that color. This option is available only when no other check box is selected.

Code / Re: The Scribus releases: goin...
Last post by a.l.e - November 07, 2024, 05:55:30 PM
Sadly, no reaction from Craig or Jean.

Personally, after this discussion, I'd really like to see Scribus 7.0 or 7.1 (depending on the number of alpha and beta releases...) to be the next release at the end of this year. Then 8.0svn will start as the next development branch and will be released as 8.0 or 8.1 when it's ready.

Time have changed, and almost no project uses complex version numbers.
No even / odd schema anymore, either.
It does not have to grow to the crazy numbers over hundred of Firefox and Chrome, but there is no risk to have version 50 of Scribus anytime soon...

I kind of suspect the same thing.  :(

I will have a look through some PDF documentation to see if I can do any further editing once Scribus has created my form.

The downside of course, is that each time further changes are made by Scribus, it will necessitate  this post-processing routine.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: Description of a sla file ...

I think this is a very good question. Understanding the XML file of the sla data file can be interesting if you want to "heal" a corrupted data file of scribus.
Also automatic document generation would be possible.
I wonder why for 2 years there is no answer to this interesting question.
Thank you all in advance for any comment.

Text and Typography / Find All Styles Used --- issue...
Last post by Erik96 - November 07, 2024, 11:20:36 AM
the initial author wrote:
QuoteWhen reusing a Scribus document to begin a new iteration of it, I always seem to end up adding new styles as well as reusing existing ones.  But some of the existing styles are no longer used in my current document and should be removed.  But how do I find which styles are actively being used?  I wrote a short bash script (linux) to find these:
grep PARENT=  <targetFile>.sla | sort | uniq | grep -o '".*"' | sed 's/"\([^"]*\)".*/\1/' | sort | uniq

the code above does work, but it lists all styles defined, there is no distinction if it is really used. It lists also the definition of the styles. You can sort this out easily adding another grep.
grep PARENT=  <targetFile>.sla | grep -v ""STYLE NAME" | sort | uniq | grep -o '".*"' | sed 's/"\([^"]*\)".*/\1/' | sort | uniq
the obtained output seems OK for me.

Would be great however to have this in the menu of scribus itself ....
The original discussion after deviates a little bit on importing styles ...

Have a great day

hi admfubar

just tested with scribus 1.6.3 and 1.7.0 – it depends on how you select:
if you select the elements in the 'outline' panel one by one, the 'align' function works as expected. but if you select a range of objects (click on an object in the 'outline' panel and shift-click on another one) it will align relative to the top most element.

Layout Issues / Re: Text Frame Content Vertica...

To vertical align text, select the text frame/column(s) and open the text properties window (F3), click the  columns and text distances, the first entry is for align text vertically.

I'm not sure what you are asking about in the second paragraph. Are these columns linked? If so you probably need to use a column and frame breaks. see the Insert menu from the main menu, fourth from the bottom. Spaces & Breaks.
