Title: Fade (ghost) a JPG or PNG -
Post by: wgregori on August 06, 2015, 01:39:20 AM
Hi,

I've been rooting around in scribus for sometime trying to fade an image so I only see a ghost of said image.  Is this possible?  Currently I'm pulling the image into GIMP and fading it there.

Thanks so much for such a great program!

FOSS it's more about human rights than free software!

Could you give an example of - or explain more about - what you're trying to achieve please? I can think of lots of different "fade" or "ghost" effects that are done differently depending on what's actually required.

Hi Garry,

I'd like to place a background image in my document, fade it to a point where it is barely visible to a point where I can place text and other elements over it.

In that case the easiest way to do it is to put your image on a separate layer and set the layer Opacity to a low number.

Opacity will only work on the finished product if you export as PDF 1.4 or later (but that's only a problem for people who haven't updated their system/software for more than a decade).

or putting a few guidelines on the/a master page?

a few commands and dialogs and actions you can have a look at:

- menu: edit > master page
- menu: page > manage guides
- menu: page > snap to guides
- menu: view > show guides
- menu: page > apply master page
- drag and drop the guides from the ruler on top and on the left onto the page

and if you want to stick to an image:
- reduce the color intensity in gimp
- put it on a layer behind the current one (you have to create it first, in window > layers)

good luck!

... if i understood correctly, that you want to use the image for setting the marks that helps placing the frames...

otherwise, just put in in the background and reduce the saturation in gimp before placing the image :-)

That solved me problem.  thanks!
