Good afternoon

I have a problem with Scribus and this printer. The printer itself is capable to print A4 borderless. I just tried it out with a full graphic A4 borderless.

Now, if I want to put the printer margins to 0, no entry smaller than the ones on the pic are accepted.

Any Idea? It is vital, that I can produce documents which have borderless illustrations.

Have you first consulted the Manual? You can probably find the solution there.

Why do you print directly from Scribus? Printing in Scribus is very hard to get working because it depends a lot on the underlying printer system (from the operating system) and the printer driver. There have even bee suggestions to remove the printing from Scribus because so many people have problems with it.

Use Scribus to create a PDF and print it from Adobe Reader.

Hi Nermander

Thanks for your response. I am a bit worried with this, because it did not work Full Bleed with a PDF generated from the *.sla.

But, there is always a solution: I printed my full bleed directly from Scribus and you know what? Bingo! First shot, complete full bleed like in old Windows days. Admitted, once the document was finished, I grouped the whole lot and shifted the margins around. I believe I could override like this the not very helpful resistance from the Print margin assistant. Now no white in any corners.

And yes, I do not get the normal hplip interface but a cups one.

I have no possibility to include Adobe reader, I am on Kubuntu and have said bye bye to the like of Adobe, Micrsoft etc.  ;D

Adobe Reader is available for Linux as far as I know.

Here's a link to the deb (that should be possible to install on *buntu).

Hi, thanks for the link. Just give me one good reason for what I shoud use a proprietory product? Admitted, I use Google Earth, but there is no alternative to this. With my inbuilt PDF-Reader I can even manage the UK Tax Return forms.

Adobe Reader is the "reference PDF viewer". Since it is Adobe who wrote the PDF specification, Adobe Reader is (as far as I know) the only PDF viewer that can handle all features of a PDF.

Many other PDF viewers have had problems with PDF:s created by Scribus, because Scribus uses features of the PDF format that other programs can't handle.

So, the generel rule is: If the PDF displays correct in Adobe Reader it is correct. If another viewer can't show it correct, the fault is not in the PDF but in that other viewer.

OK, thanks. I have taken note of the link (however, I need the german version). If I ever have a problem with a PDF I created or realise there is something wrong with one from others, I might try it.

However I do not think my present problem has something to do with the question which Reader I use. The fact, that I can not define a page size with Zero distance to the paper borders is certainly not checked by Scribus with the presence of Adobe Reader.

For me, it comes to  the question to remove hplip completely and print everything with the native drivers of Linux. But I will open this question in the appropritate distbution forums.

You are misunderstanding things. The dialog you have open is not to set the margins, it is used to "fetch" the margins from the printer defintion.

Margins in Scribus are not "hard" in that Scribus prevents you from placing items there, they work just as a visual guide for you so you know where the printable area is.

I have created dozens of PDFs with 0 margins in Scribus, I have even created PDFs with bleed and it always works as expected.

And here's the link to the page where you can chose version and language for Adobe Reader.

Hi Nermander
I have yesterday by accident realised, that the Acrobat Reader is in the repos of Kubuntu. So I did install it and it works. I have first to get the thing really going, but I am now also able to see things the Acrobat Way (again).
Thanks for your discussion, I thought I let you know.
