Importing Images

Good evening,
I hope my English can be understood ! When I import an image into an image frame, the process is incredibly slow. It takes 15, 20 or more seconds before a folder opens. And at least half a minute to import an image into the selected frame. Is there something I can do in order to have things going faster (other features of Scribus seems to run at a normal speed) ? Thank you in advance. Regards. Pierre

What os and version? What version of scribus? How many files are in the folder where your images are stored? Local or usb drive where the images are stored?

Hello, you're right, many data missing. OS Windwos 11, Scribus version 1.6.3, pictures are on a local drive. Folders are as follows:
main folder EDEL4, in that folder my Scribus file
subfolder pictures, contains 65 .jpg files
Is this clear enough ?
From the root folder:
E: = local drive
first level folder: E:\mes projets
second level folder: E:\mes projets\EDEL4 as above.
Thank you in avance

how big are the images you try to import?

in which format are they?

pierruel

Good evening,
All images are on .jpg format.
The size is between 105 and 3040 Ko
Thank you for taking into consideration.
Best regards
Pierre

... as far as i know, jpg is not jpg : - )

what happens if you remove all images from that folder?
all images but one?
if you remove all the files but the .sla?

there might be other file that scribus or qt think it could potentially be an image and it struggles analyzing it.

Hello,
Apparently Zurich's sensayuma is not the same as Geneva's one. If jpg isn't jpg, what is jpg ?
I'll try you other suggestions, thank you.

Re,
If I remove all images from my image folder, I can't import any image.
If I  ...but one, it is as slow as before to have the unique image imported.
If I remove all files but the .sla, I take my fishing pole and stop worrying about publishing.
I don't understand "scribus or qt think".
In the meantime the .sla file got lost anyhow, but it doesn't matter since it was misfunctioning.
What about re-installing Scribus ?
Many thanks for helping me.

Reinstalling Scribus very likely won't help.

On the other side, I was a bit too short in my suggestions:

By removing the images and / or files I was suggesting to move them out of the folder, not to delete them.

When you could confirm or refute the thesis, you will have to move them back in for working on your document!

And for the types of jpegs:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG#Successors

I know see that they tend to have different extensions.

But there are different implementation... maybe the library used by Qt or Scribus struggles more with some of them... who knows?

And, of course, you might have images that are labeled as .jpg but contain other types of images: it probably still works.

... And now I also know that Google did Jpegli ... Gopferteli.

Ah, and about "Qt or Scribus": the preview in the image loader might be from Qt (the framework used by Scribus for its used interface) or from Scribus itself.

True: I reinstalled and meet the same issue about pictures; in addition the problem of every text frame beeing divided into 3 "sub-columns" (see relevant sub-forum) is still present, which is rather astonishing since my former version of Scribus was completely uninstalled.

Unfortunately I don't master enough English and the proposed translation is so bad that I understand it even less.
I know see that they tend to have different extensions.
My images come all from my camera which produces only .JPG files but I'm not able to guess if another format hides itself in these images.

But there are different implementation... maybe the library used by Qt or Scribus struggles more with some of them... who knows? Not clear for me !

I see

There could be an explanation: My HD is partitioned so as to have all applications .exe files on drive C: and all files I produced on drive E:, among them .sla files (D: is used as reserve). Scribus default location for .sla files is the folder "Documents" on drive A: perhaps this organisation of my HD causes various issues. But I must say that since I'm working with Scribus (6-8 years) with the same HD organization I never met such difficulties.

What can I do now ? Is there a place where all properties and parameters of Scribus can be set ?

Many thanks

Pierre

Is scribus the only program having issues with slow loading in this directory? Have you tried viewing the dir/images with another program? If so what the access slow?
If it is then your system might be suffering from "read fatigue" and you may want to

check this;

Hello Adm_Fubar, thank you,
I don't understand what "viewing the dir/images" means.

When I want to import an image into a .sla document (image frame) I'm brought to a browsing dialog belonging to Scribus; I have no other software provided with such a proper browsing tool. I tried to import an image into a Word document (in the same directory) but then the browsing dialog is the one of Windows and the import is very quick. It's the Scribus browsing system which is slow.
What about dir/image ?
Thank you in advance
