Hello!

I am a manager of Carrara 3D Expo online magazine. It is an online magazine for the Carrara 3d community, featuring tutorials, galleries, and interviews submitted by Carrara Artists.

In addition to being a manager and initiator of this project, in most cases I am a lead designer and layout master of the magazine.
And I made an experiment and decided to built the latest issue using Scribus and Inkscape (for the complicated vector graphics effects).

The magazine is free to be viewed and downloaded.
You can check it out here:
http://issuu.com/c3de/docs/c3de-issue-09

and read more about C3DE at www.carrara3dexpo.com

I am very impressed with Scribus and plan to use it for future releases of the magazine as well as use it as the main tool for the extended project that is on its way to the public.
Kind regards,
Danas

hi danas

this is an impressive work – congratulations!

...just one suggestion: use guides to place the objects more precise (e.g. the pictures on pages 18/19 and 20/21 have the same hight, but not the same position...)
there are lots of jumping elements like this – aligning them would make the magazine look much more professional...

Hello!

Thank you very much for your comment!
As for a first time using Scribus I am satisfied with the result.
I do agree about alignment issue. I had some troubles with guidelines, for some reason they used to go beyond the master page, or they looked so, and were not useful for alignment because my master page had the image on full page. In addition in wire frame view mode the guidelines didn;t show up too. But since I am not skilled with Scribus yet I might have been doing something wrong and with more practice will figure it out :)

hi danas

under 'file' → 'document setup' → 'guides' you can tell the guides where they should be placed (foreground or background).
in previev mode, the guides are always invisible, but if you check 'page' → 'snap to guides' they are still working as expected.
if your guides are too close for 'working blind', you may switch between standard and preview mode...

Thank you very much! For my next project I will definitely use this advice!  :)
