Font list is garbled

This is how "font list" looks like (see attachment) when I click on it via Text Properties, or Story Editor. I wonder if it's due to graphics.

System info:
Scribus version: 1.5.8
Distro: Manjaro Linux base: Arch Linux
CPU: Intel Core i3-3240
GPU: AMD Caicos Radeon HD 7450
Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 21.1.8

As far as I know the most common reason for issues like that is the window manager, and most likely its theme, and that piece of information you did not include.

Window manager is i3, however I have the same WM installed on my laptop and Scribus font list display looks OK. And even if I switch WM to Xfce (v. 4.18) and change theme the garbled menu remains.

What are the specs of your laptop? it sounds more like a display driver issue

@AdmFubar, I don't have the laptop here at the moment, but it has a newer GPU (Nvidia). My PC has an old AMD Radeon GPU (opensource driver). I suspect this to be the issue, but I wanted to hear a second opinion here.

I have the exact same issue. Also using Manjaro. (gnome/wayland)
Laptop is AMD Ryzen 5 4500U, 24GB ram

Scribus 1.6.2
I tried various themes in scribus, all present the same issue.

i fear that wayland might be the problem here.

would you mind trying with the devel version?

Thanks.
The 1.7.0 App image works fine.
I tried the in-app themes: fusion, win, & the blank default option - all function fine with the font list. (it looks very good!)

Also, the Line tab Pattern dropdown list showing ---- ____ etc worked fine. On my version of 1.6.2 that list is entirely blank (50 blank options).

EDIT: Ill add that my OS is in dark-mode. So 1.6.2 uses dark mode. Could that be an issue?
1.7.0 is in light-mode & i couldnt find an option to select dark mode.
I tried setting my OS to light mode & then launching 1.6.2, but it remains in dark mode.

yes, 1.6.2 might have issues with dark mode.

but it should not screw up the font list...
(but, personally, i'm "still" on X11 and light mode, so i don't have any direct experience with neither)

It also happens when I boot in xorg (x11) - gnome offers the choice.
The OP also specified x11

I have the same issue, but only when using kvantum.
