Spinning "Wait" pinwheel

I recently upgraded my M1 MacBook Pro to MacOs 14 - now on 14.1.1.

I *think* since the upgrade to 14, Scribus 1.5.8 displays the spinning "Wait" pinwheel forever for some documents.  I have to Force Quit Scribus; Force Quit says, "not responding."

I have a hunch, but no evidence, that this is related to my Mac storing images on the Cloud and Scribus is waiting to retrieve them.

1) Do you have any suggestion about how to diagnose it further?
2) Have you had this? What did you do to fix it?

dunno, can you open a terminal and start scribus from there, some times you get more information output to the terminal to help figure out what's going on

I don't know how to start Scribus from the Command line - can you help?

I don't have a mac, on linux from a terminal

$ scribus

if you're using a flatpak

$ flatpak run net.scribus.Scribus

if you can run the AppImage, from the directory where the AppImage is
$ ./scribus-1.5.8-linux-x86_64.AppImage

I'm very sorry -- I meant to post this to the MacOS forum.

If Scribus is installed in your personal Applications directory, you can run it like this:

/Users/<username>/Applications/Scribus.app/Contents/MacOS/Scribus

Just confirm your user name and the Scribus application path name. Might be Scribus158.app for example

When I start it from the command line, there are no errors:
* not when I open a document that does work
* not when I open a document that ends up in the "Wait" beachball, and
* not when I "Force Quit" after that.

Try a new version I just uploaded, for Apple silicon.

I am now much more sure that this has to do with Apple moving stuff off local disk, onto iCloud.  I left the wheel spinning overnight and by morning it had opened.
