AppImage 1.5.8 Crashes at Startup

Previous topic - Next topic

Scribus was starting fine for several months, then it 'doesnt start' when I click it.

If starting from a terminal, I get the message
Syntax error: "(" unexpected

the weird part here is if I update ANY font on my system,  ( even copy an existing font into .fonts), scribus loads just fine until I lock my session or reboot, then once again it will not start.

I have downloaded  1.5.7 which I used for months, and it also exhibits the same issue, as does 1.5.5.

I can run the repo 1.4.7 version with no issues.

I say it is a corrupted config file.  exit scribus and rename the .scribus file. then restart scribus and see if it runs ok. you may need to update your prefs to if any changes were made to them from your initial install.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Sorry, I failed to mention that I had tried this. (did it again just now too).  .scribus folder deleted, no .scribus file found.   No change,  does not start with any visible signs, same message on cli.

Still searching for a fix.

The workaround at this time is to rename any font and start Scribus. It starts and appears to run fine.  But after a logout, I can only start it again with the font rename.

PatJr

dunno,
I'm using the one from flathub, it seems to be working OK
still prefer stable regular install

PatJr

I have seen a solution where the font cache has to be rebuilt
it's annoying but it did work, sorry I don't have a link to it

AdmFubar

Looks like the appimage is the issue then. I would look into one build for your distro, or if you feel up to it, download the source and compile it.

Thank you all for your help.  I tried various things, only renaming a font was the work around.  When I moved to MX 21.1 linux the issue resolved and has not reappeared. (same apimage.)
