Variable fonts

I just started using Scribus and noticed that, when I try to use the Bahnschrift typeface, only the "regular" font is available, while all other programs (Inkscape, GIMP) show the full range of fonts. I am suspecting this could be because Bahnschrift is variable typeface and Scribus does not have support for this yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on the subject? I use this typeface a lot for my designs and it's a pretty big disadvantage if I can't use it.

Thanks in advance!!

Does the font actually include other variants?

Scribus will only use what is in the font, other programs may create "fake" bold and italics from the regular font.

as far as i can tell, scribus does not support variable fonts... and you hardly can believe the reason...

if you have an idea how to solve that, please raise your hand : - )

Hi, I've just registered because I want to try using Scribus more.
One thing I'd love is support for variable fonts.

Well, I just tested Inkscape 1.1.2 with variable fonts and they do manage to export a fine looking PDF. The PDF seems to be written using "cairo 1.17.4" and it did contain static fonts that were created on the fly with names like "CairoFont-0-0".
So the open source librarys / tools seem to be there now. Hopefully the implementation in Inkscape can be adapted to Scribus somehow...

The related issue

may already be solved by the availability of cairo? No need to reinvent the wheel.
