Text problem for newbie

I created an image frame as part of a master page -- but when I hover over it and right-click, the pop-up does not ask for an image. Instead it seems to want text.  I see no way to upload an image.  Any idea why an image frame would prompt me to upload text? Thanks.

hi yakevigatad

did you try to insert the image on the master page or on a document page?
you can't edit master page objects on document pages. if you created your document with 'automatic text frames', you may think you click on your image frame, but in reality you try to load an image into the text frame...

Hi yakevigatad,

Which operating system and Scribus version are you using? I agree with utnik, did you have the box checked for automatic text frames on the startup dialog box? If not can you convert the textbox back to an image frame using ITEM->Convert to->image frame? Also as utnik pointed out you do need to be on the master page to work with the troublesome frame.

Cheers!

Thanks to both responders.

I do have autoframe on, as it seems to be on by default.  I will turn that off and try again.  I am not in the Master Page edit mode when I attempt to insert an image, just in the regular mode, so to speak. But autoframe has already caused me other problems (like linking boxes that I would prefer to be separate), so I'll deactivate autoframe and go from there. Thanks again.

I'm using version 1.4.8.

as i said before, you can't edit objects from master pages on the document pages.
if you need the same image frame on different pages (but editable), the scrapbook will be the better place for it than a master page. (or you define the right guides on the master page to insert the frame just by a mouse click while pressing the 'shift' key...)

lots of users mention problems with the automatic text frames. i use the often and split them where i don't like them to be linked. i never had problems with them, as long as the text chains aren't too long. but there different ways to do things right...
