Letters in Indic anguages not displaying correctly

Hi,

I'm creating a book in English and various other Indic languages.  When I paste the Indic languages, some of the letters are incorrect?

This is for Hindi, Urdu and Tamil

I understand Scribus 1.5.5 has more support for complex languages. Does this mean and include Indic languages?

I've done a few hours research. I tried to download the Ghostscript file from the link on  Wiki Scribus but found the pkg file won't open. After an hour or so I learnt this file is not for Windows.

If I can't open and install ghostscript file then I can't download Scribus 1.5.5, is this correct?

I'm new to desktop publishing software, non programming knowledge.

I'm using Scribus 1.4.7 on Windows 10.

Thanks.

so,basically:

- yes, you need 1.5.5 for indic languages.
(and the support is said to be rather good)
- no, you don't need ghostscript for getting scribus to work
(you only need gs for specific features)

so, for your first tries you need to downlaod

https://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus-devel/1.5.5/scribus-1.5.5-windows-x64.exe/download

please give feedback if it did work for you.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Much appreciated.

I'll let you know if it works.

Hi,

It's 64-bit and I'm running a 32-bit Windows.

Is there a 32-bit version?

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. It worked perfectly.

There was some issue with line spacing for Gujarati, but otherwise all the Indic languages I used displayed perfectly.

I've been using open source software to learn random things for a while now. Its given me the confidence to go ahead with this project and that's why I particularly wanted to use Scribus. Very happy it's worked out.

Thanks again.

hi @Bahsa0011

nice to know that it worked also for the gujarati language!

can you please describe (screenshot, pdf, sample text, sla file) the issue with the line spacing for gujarati?

I had the first print proofs delivered today. Need to go through it more but definitely happy with the results.

I have a question on the 1.5.5 Scribus and the pdf/X1a. I want to export the front cover as a pdf in this but it's greyed out. Not sure if this is the right place to ask or do I start another post?

Will definitely send screenshots.

Thanks.

colour management  :)

Took my what 5 hours or more to get to this. Still worth it.

a.l.e

yes, you need to activate the color management for pdf/x1a.

you're still welcome to post more details on your issue with the line spacing... and, please, start a new thread for new issues...

Thanks for replying even though I posted in the wrong thread.

I think the spacing is not a fault on Scribus but just how Gujarati is normally spaced.

I've attached the screenshot of Gujarati and English script at 15pt spacing from Scribus.  They look perfect.

However, I've also attached a photograph of a page in a Gujarati book and a screenshot of a newspaper article in Gujarati. This is why I thought the line spacing was wrong.

I'm not sure about the the other South Asian languages because for this anthology o have only used certain words not full sentences.

This may change next time.

Thanks again for all the help.

I've been trying for a while and I can't post this message with the attachments

sorry bahsa,

the screenshots did not get through...

there have been a few patches lately to improve the support for indic languages, and there is a strong interest in further improving it!

I think what Scribus has to offer at this momyis brilliant.
I will definitely be using it again as I hope the next anthology will feature more South Asian languages.

Thanks again for your help,
