Version 1.5.5 is not working under OSX El Capitan, it won't even open. Just re-installed 1.5.4
Any hint or workaround? Thank you.

you did try to open it by right clicking on the icon of the app, haven't you?

what do you mean by "it won't open"?
what's the error that happens?
it just ignores your double click?

it won't open means exactly that. I double click it, then the systems verifies it, then got the warning about this soft is downloaded from the web etc, then it won't open, it won't start; trying again, it just won't open/start. Version 1.5.4 works ok, so I reinstalled it.

You might have to call apple and get permission to use software not made by apple.

the first time you run an "application downloaded from the internet" you have to right click on it and pick the "open" entry. (and then confirm that you indeed want to open scribus).

you probably have to do it with every new version you download.

there is a thread in here with some more details.

(btw, you can have 1.5.5 and 1.5.4 in parallel)

I have set my MBP to open any kind of app, so it is not that the problem, it just won't open after agreeing to open an app downloaded from the internet. As I say 1.5.4 or any other previous version I used could open without a problem. It is just this latest version.

so the question is: can anybody in here tell if he or she has 1.5.5 working with el capitan?

maybe not, as there are three newer os versions out (the fourth to come in october) and people who work with development software versions usually update the os too...

that's a good hint! – the 1013 version might not run under older operating systems.

I tried both, one is for 10.13, this particular one it just cannot be installed, the other one it can be installed but then I got the described situation.

... and you cannot upgrade your macos system?

nobody around here seems to be using el capitan so we cannot really tell you if the dmg is supposed to work there.
it might be an issue on your computer or in the dmg.
hard to tell for me, since i cannot try.

Unfortunately not on my 2008 MBP.

so, all you can do is to open a ticket on

https://bugs.scribus.net

then craig will be aware that there is a problem with el capitan and:

- maybe create a 1.5.5 for it and/or
- make sure that 1.6 will work on it (if possible)

and use 1.5.4 for now...
