Crop a PDF imported in a Scribus file

Hello !

I'm a complete beginner. I've imported a pdf and now I'd like to crop it (in order to show only a part of the original pdf). Can't figure out how...

Do I have to place the pdf in a frame ? Isn't it possible to crop it directly with the red handles ?

Thank you for your help !

Hi Carnea,

Is there a specific reason for cropping the pdf instead of trying to get the elements i.e. type, photo, illustration out of the pdf file and use directly within Scribus...I know that this would be my first preference when working with artwork.  Also which version of Scribus and Operating System are you using and I can give you suggestions for apps to accomplish my suggestion.

BTW, you need to import the pdf file into an image frame and you should be able to resize the frame to hide the elements that you do not want to see.  I just did it yesterday for a quick mock layout for a customer to see and then I recreated it fully today by pulling out the elements I needed directly out of the pdf file and into Scribus.

indeed, with 1.4 you have to load the PDF in an image frame.

if you diable the auomatic scaling of the image and "magnifiy it", you can the double click on the image and move it around.

depending on the type of the content using inkscape to separate the PDF in its components and then load each one as svg, png, jpg or text into scribus might be a better idea (that's for sure not the case if you're including ads...).

in 1.5.x you have the choice to load the pdf as in mage (like explained for 1.4) or to import it as a bunch of vectors.

Thanks mnawij !

I have version 1.5.2 on Windows 10. I'll try importing it to an image frame.

The pdf is an A4 sheet music; I have to take a part of it and add lyrics.

Thank you again.

It would be windows :o  I use Mac and Linux but a friend of mine I just asked gave me the following:

http://www.pdftrick.org
http://www.gsview.com
https://pdfbox.apache.org

https://www.gonitro.com/pro (PAID$$$), he says this is his go to app even though it is $160.00.  Free trial available.
https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio/ (PAID$$$), used before nitro, said pro version did a good job.
but I have had no personal experience with any of these apps.

of course inkscape and gimp

Let me know if you find any others, especially open source for windows.

Just as an extra quick tip: GIMP can convert PDF pages to raster images that can then be imported into Scribus images frames. (And from what I've seen it does a very good job of it too.) You can use this method if your PDF is large and you only need one or two pages from it.

Thank you all ! I was able to make multiple "ungroup" and delete the elements I wanted to "crop". Would not work with every document, but in that  case it worked.

Thank you for your help : nice for a first try with Scribus.
