Scribus and ghostscript

I am a Mac user (OSX Yosemite 10.9.2) and as a pensioner in my seventies have great difficulty in understanding many aspects of downloading programmes. Now that my old Quarkxpress Passport is ten years old (I got it when I retired) Quark tell me I cannot use it so I have installed Scribus 1.4.4, which is telling me I need to install ghostscript. I have found and downloaded (I think) version 9.15 and the file includes folders from  arch  to  win32. What I cannot find is the application to install, what is it called and where do I find it?
Scribus help states "In case gs has been installed on your computer, but Scribus can't find it, you can add the path to the gs executable file in the Scribus Preferences." But where do I find the path in the preferences which lists folders from  General to Scripter and what is the executable file?

Edit: Full instructions on installing Scribus and/or Ghostscript on OSX can be found here:

I'd recommend getting GhostScript from http://pages.uoregon.edu/koch/

The link to the latest 9.15 version - third link down - gives you the PKG (Package Installer) for OSX which can simply be installed by double-clicking the downloaded file. No messing around, just follow the simple on-screen instructions. Accept the defaults unless you know better. (This link has a tiny bit more info on OSX installation methods http://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,855.msg3864.html#msg3864 )

The path for GS to add to Scribus can be found in "Scribus -> Preferences / External Tools" where it says "Postscript Interpreter".

Try using
/usr/local/bin/gs
first, (apply the change, close Scribus and restart), and if that doesn't work try
/opt/local/bin/gs

Further, if those don't work, you could give these instructions a go to find the GS executable http://forums.scribus.net/index.php/topic,1001.msg4487.html#msg4487 but they need a bit more technical know-how (e.g Terminal).

I hope this helps.

You're welcome Retired-Robin.

I hope you like using Scribus, and don't hesitate to ask more questions if you get stuck on anything.

Hi Gary,

In my case, my system is Windows 8.1 (64 bit)  Can you tell me where to download the appropriate Ghostscript?  I dont want any dramas by downloading the wrong option.

Thanks
My first 'puter was a 286,
My first dtp was Aldus Pagemaker,
My first printer was a Little Squirt,
My first car was a motorbike.

Ive just downloaded gs915w64 and the "you do not have Ghostscript" alert no longer pops up.  So, presumably my Scribus has found the correct path to Ghostscript without anymore having to be done.

I'm glad you managed to get things sorted Ged.

I don't use Windows so I couldn't have recommended a download location anyway. I know of plenty of places to get it from but I don't know which one is best.

For future reference:

Ghostscript for Windows can be downloaded from here: http://ghostscript.com/download/
There are downloads for both 32 and 64-bit systems.
