Unreasonably slow operation on Windows 7/64 bit

I've got Windows 7 - 64 bit, with 16 gigabytes of RAM. I just installed Scribus. After several attempts at converting a 97,000 word .odt file, it finally made it after consuming around 10 minutes of CPU time in the process. Now, every click I make seems to eventually work, but with a response time of 90 seconds or so. Obviously, this is completely unusable.

Is there any known configuration issue that could cause this? Is this normal for a Windows installation?

Hi,
I have had problems to... The 64 bit install (not the download) took 3 or 4 minutes. Then simple documents took 7 or 8 seconds to open. I also had text editing problems. I then un-installed the 64 bit version and installed the 32 bit version and that worked ok. I Just re-installed the 64 bit version and it seems OK although I've only tested it for a few minutes but is looking good. I have both the 32 bit and 64 bit on my machine. I'll remove the 32 bit version and see what happens ;D
