.dat files

After finishing up a project with 1.5, I'm finding 80+ .dat files in my home folder (Xubuntu), all named after my project but progressively numbered. There is no recommended application to open them. What are they and can I delete them?

DAT files are used by many different applications. To know what to do with a DAT file, you need to know what application created it.

hello rascalsmom
i don't know .dat files from scribus.
open one of the files with a simple text editor. usually .dat files (or parts of them) are readable – and you might see which program wrote them…
the next step could be to pack the files in a .zip and delete the originals. if everything works fine, you can delete the .zip as well…

sorry for the first answer in german – was a system crash in my brain or something like that…
