General Discussion / Re: Where Can I Find A Ghostscript Download?
« Last post by Robert358 on November 29, 2018, 07:06:51 am »

Every link I find to a Ghostscript download is broken, won't work.

Something about the source being unverifiable I think.   I'm on Win10 here.

One location (http://ghostscript.com/releases/)  just opens a blank page, says nothing, does nothing.

any help?

I am also getting a same issue. Please help!!! What do we have to do...?

PDF Generation / Embed Arial and Times
« Last post by gio on November 28, 2018, 05:20:31 pm »
Hello, :)

My document is only textual, and I used only two fonts:

- Times New Roman (+ the bold / Italic versions...)
- Arial (same)

...but I don't know why, when I save into PDF, Scribus doesn't want to embed those fonts. It only accept vectorization.

Why ?! :(

Both are TTF. TrueType SFNT.
Actually it seems that Scribus refuses to embed any font... I'm using 1.4.6 version on Windows 10.

jontijojo post does not make much sense and her second post is a copy paste from stackoverflow.
she is probably a spammer preparing her work...

i will leave this thread around for now, but i will probably remove it later.

warning: 1.5.4 is a development version and not all features are stable!

but it's very usable and many things are better and more stable than in 1.4.
as a rule of thumb, if you use the same features as you were using in 1.4 you should be fine.

from what you have written until now, you should now finish your urgent project in 1.5 and then get your 1.4 fixed and continue your work with it.

there must be a reason why scribus 1.4 does not work for your anymore... and we could not find out what it is...

good luck with your project!

hi olibrius

does it matter if you're working with scribus1.4.7 or 1.5.4?
(i just try to find a 'point of attack' for a problem i don't know much about…)

Big thanks to you and a.l.e for your advices and patience  ;)

yes, i've read your 11H44 post and i retained that scribus takes too long to start.

10 minutes or 1.5 hours does not matter.

it's too long. this is what matters.

can i really suggest you to bring your computer to some skilled person in your neighborhood and get her to fix it?
if you're correctly reporting what happens on your computer, this is a problem i've not seen reported yet.
you will probably need the help of a specialist who can access your computer. you can show her this thread so that she can get some hint what to look at (if she does not know much about scribus).

it might be a hardware problem. a wrong icc profile (you should temporary remove all of the them), a font problem... or some other problem that relates to your computer or the software installed on your machine.

just one thing: stop waiting for one+ hour for scribus to start.
except that you have to get scribus to go through the whole start process once and quit it in a clean way once. so that the new settings are 100% saved.
but even then... scribus should not take 1 1/2 hour to start. really.

without new information, i think i'm done with this thread.
there is not much more i can tell you.

the best option for a fast solution is to find a different computer, install scribus on it and move your project there, collected for output in your current scribus (it will probably take hours to complete... but then you migrated away).
... but since i don't see you, i don't even know if using a different computer is an option for you.
one more reason why, you need local help.

Hi,
Did you read my 11H44 post ?
Scribus doesn't take 10 min to launch but more than 1 hour. I launch it again 55 minutes ago, without any file opening... it's still trying to open while I'm writing this.
What takes about 10 minutes is to open a file when Scribus is finally open...
Other programs look to work fine, as Gimp for exemple
